McClymont is looking to add a Cattle Accountant to their team for the feedyard located in Holdrege, NE.
Job Overview:
The Cattle Accountant plays a dual role in managing financial and administrative responsibilities while actively supporting feedyard operations. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling transactions, and assisting with operational tasks within the feedyard. The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic and willing to learn all facets of a feedyard while also fostering a well-rounded understanding of operations and finance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records of cattle inventory, commodity purchases, and sales transactions.
- Reconcile and process supplier and buyer invoices, ensuring accuracy in billing and payments.
- Monitor commodity market trends and pricing, providing reports to feedlot management for informed decision-making.
- Coordinate with buyers, sellers, and transporters to schedule and confirm timely deliveries and shipments of cattle and commodities.
- Weigh trucks and record data accurately for inbound and outbound shipments.
- Answer phone calls, address customer inquiries, and provide helpful and professional service to clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure timely payment processing and accurate financial reporting.
- Assist in managing budgets, forecasts, and financial statements related to cattle and commodity transactions.
- Communicate regularly with feedlot managers, suppliers, and other stakeholders on inventory, sales, and market conditions.
- Assist with audits and other financial analysis as needed.
- Perform other administrative tasks to support smooth operations within the feedlot.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelors degree in accounting, agriculture, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software (experience with livestock or commodity-based accounting software is a plus).
- Excellent communication skills, with a friendly and professional demeanor when interacting with customers, vendors, and team members.
- Knowledge of commodity markets, livestock accounting practices, and the agricultural industry is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to problem-solve, adapt to new technologies, and assist in improving operational processes.
- Willingness to learn and develop within the role.
- Fluency in Spanish is a significant plus to effectively communicate with Spanish-speaking employees.
Working Conditions: This position involves a combination of office-based and outdoor work in a feedlot environment.
The role involves extended periods of computer use, answering phone calls, and operating truck scales. Occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends may be required. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided, and safety guidelines must be followed at all times.
Must be able to pass post offer employment testing.
