Biomedical Technician I
The Biomedical Technician I (Biomed I) is responsible for assisting with the overall technical maintenance of dialysis facilities. Work involves the knowledge and ability to perform repairs and maintenance related to the equipment in the dialysis facility. The position exercises judgment in applying professional knowledge in solving problems within established policies and practices. The Biomedical Technician I works closely with senior technical staff, taking direction from them and escalating questions and concerns.

Biomedical Technician I
The Biomedical Technician I (Biomed I) is responsible for assisting with the overall technical maintenance of dialysis facilities. The Biomedical Technician I works closely with senior technical staff, taking direction from them and escalating questions and concerns.
- All full-time biomedical technicians are required to provide on-call coverage and will receive a weekly on-call stipend for this responsibility.
- Comply with all Company policies and procedures as well as federal, state, OSHA, and other agency regulations applicable to the position. Respect sensitivity of patient information and maintain HIPAA compliance.
- Promote positive public relations with patients, their family members, guests, physicians, co-workers, hospital/facility personnel, outside agencies, and service providers. Use tactful and appropriate communications in all work-related interactions.
- Timely perform all repairs and maintenance as related to medical equipment, water treatment systems, and associated systems.
- Assure water used for dialysis meets AAMI requirements with daily monitoring and routine testing.
- Complete and maintain accurate records and documentation as they apply to job requirements, assignments, and applicable regulations.
- Understand and comply with policies and procedures for alternative water supplies.
- Assist clinic staff in maintaining and controlling medical supply inventory.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and professional work area; may assist with physical plant maintenance as needed.
- Assist in emergency procedures.
- May be required to participate in IRC Technical Training program and pass any applicable competency exams.
- Complete requirements for in-service training, other required training, and participate in staff meetings.
- Upon manager approval, conduct in-services for staff as directed and provide training to clinical and technical staff on water treatment and equipment testing operations.
- Follow all infection control procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Participate in the facility’s QAPI program.
- Use equipment, such as pallet jacks and lift gates, as needed and in accordance with safety protocols.
- Clean, disinfect, and perform basic maintenance on RO systems and distribution loops.
- Participate in IRC’s monthly inventory reporting using current inventory management applications as requested.
- May assist the home program by delivering home dialysis equipment and assisting with inventory management as needed.
- Perform other duties as requested by immediate supervisor and/or senior technical staff.
- Provide on-call coverage, including phone and in-person support, for critical biomedical needs outside normal business hours.
- Successful progression to independently handling routine biomedical technical matters at one or two facilities is required and generally expected within 18 months.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Applicable Equipment Manufacturer Technician certificates or commitment to obtain necessary certificates within 12-18 months.
- Experience in a medical or technical environment.
- At least 12 months of experience in dialysis within the last two years.
