What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Technician position at Inns of Aurora?
Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the Landscape Technician will be responsible for the care and maintenance of all Inns of Aurora properties.
- Operate and maintain tractors, trucks, mowers, cutters, edgers, and other necessary equipment for maintenance of the properties
- Operate and demonstrate the proper use of equipment and power hand tools
- Maintain the irrigation, planting, and pruning of trees, shrubs, and grasses
- Mow, trim and fertilize green spaces
- Mulch, edge and weed gardens
- Prune and trim trees and bushes
- Maintain and repair sprinklers and watering systems
- Assist in Spring and Fall clean up involving leaf removal, gutter cleaning, and other exterior debris removal.
- Perform snow removal operations, snowmelt application, and other winter weather-related activities
- Assist with general maintenance across the property, as needed.
- Perform other duties, as assigned
- Working knowledge of the methods, materials, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment used in various grounds maintenance activities including mowing, edging, trimming, and weed and pest control
- Basic understanding of plants, trees and ground cover materials
- Working knowledge of health and safety regulations related to power equipment and toxic chemical applications
- Ability to operate assigned equipment including, but not limited to plow truck, snow blower, tractor, lawn mower
- Working knowledge of health and safety regulations related to power equipment and toxic chemical applications
- Ability to communicate effectively with others in a team environment
- Previous customer service experience
- Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision
- A friendly and professional work ethic and demeanor
- Flexibility in scheduling, including nights and weekend availability
PREFERENCES
- High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate and an at least one year of grounds maintenance or year-round outdoor work experience
- Completed trade and vocational courses
- Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in horticulture, or related field
- Certification in trade (carpenter, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, related) preferred
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven record of observing legal and defensive driving practices, as verified by the NYS Lens Program
