What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trauma Nurse Specialist (RN) Pediatric Emergency (Level 1 Trauma) position at Inova Health System?
The Level 1 Trauma Pediatric Emergency Department at Inova Children's Hospital is seeking an experienced Pediatric Emergency Room RN to join our team as a Trauma Nurse Specialist. Eligible Nurses will qualify for sign on & relocation bonuses.
Full-Time, Night shift (7pm - 7am). During orientation will rotate through all shifts (Days, Mids, and Nights).

Trauma Nurse Specialist Responsibilities:
- Supports and adheres to hospital policies, procedures, philosophies and missions.

- Demonstrates leadership skills in decision making and problem solving while providing safe and therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way.
- Utilizes standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery while incorporating data and information to continuously improve care/practice and to enhance outcomes.
- Applies trauma assessment skills to patients and/or patient populations by utilizing the principles of ATCN or Trauma Nurse Core Courses (TNCC) and coordinates and expedites appropriate trauma care based on ATCN or TNCC, Trauma Bay standards and the mechanism of injury.
- Participates in the budget process by anticipating trends and future needs of the Trauma Program and works with a broad array of departments to resolve inefficiencies and reduce costs.
- Demonstrates evidence of self-development by participating in a minimum of 80 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of 18 formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record in order to meet the ACS and state requirements for annual Continued Education Unit requirements for Level One trauma centers.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
Trauma Nurse Specialist Requirements:
- Experience: a minimum of 2 years of Pediatric ED RN experience in a Leveled Trauma Hospital
- Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing
- Certification: BLS, PALS & ACLS from American Heart Association
- License: Must be licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to display a caring demeanor toward others
- Proficient computer skills required.
