What are the responsibilities and job description for the Non-Clinical Support Clerk position at Inova Surgery Center?
Inova Northern Virginia Surgery Center is currently hiring a prn administrative clerk to work with our preoperative screening nurses. This position will be responsible for clerical/administrative duties that include calling patients, completing their health histories over the phone and entering their information into an electronic system.
HOURS: At least one 8-hr shift a week (minimum required is 4 shifts in a 6-week schedule)
The Non-Clinical Support Clerk reports to the Pre-Op/PACU Nurse Manager and is responsible for various tasks that assist in providing efficiencies for daily operations of the Surgery Center. Tasks performed involve a variety of duties while supporting the philosophy, objectives and goals of the Surgery Center. The Non-Clinical Support Clerk also supports and participates in quality improvement activities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
- Communicates all surgery schedule changes, updates and cancellations to essential staff
- Serves as liaison between Pre-Op/PACU staff and patient family members
- Assists with patient chart prep
- Ensures completion of post-op patient phone calls prior to transferring charts to Medical Records
- Maintains inventory of departmental forms
- Patient data entry
- Telephone reception
- Coordination of patient rides
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Ability to navigate a computer and the internet proficiently
- Possess good interpersonal skills, phone etiquette, and patience
- Ability to work with deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Reads, writes, speaks and comprehends the English language
- Comprehension of medical terminology
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, multitask and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position
