Job Summary

The Department of Human Services seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position for the Counselor Education program beginning August 1, 2025. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

We seek applicants who are experienced, highly motivated, culturally proficient, and effective counselor educators who can work within the academy and community to deliver quality and relevant counselor education in the area of practice as well as those with the desire and ability to successfully engage a diverse body of students as they launch or continue their intellectual journey.

The Counselor Education program includes an Ed.S. in School Counseling and an M.Ed. program with a concentration in School Counseling and a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The School Counseling program is CACREP accredited, and the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is seeking initial accreditation. Both Counselor Education concentrations are fully online. The Ed.S. in School Counseling is also fully online.

Responsibilities

Teaching graduate courses in Counselor Education, including individual and group counseling theories, counseling skills and techniques, career counseling, practicum, human growth and development, multicultural counseling, appraisal / assessment of individuals, research methods, ethics, and internship; advising M.Ed. Counselor Education and Ed.S. School Counseling candidates; conducting a research agenda that consists of publications, presentations, and grant writing; providing service to the department, College, University, community, and the public schools in the region.

Typical Allocation of Duties :

Teaching and scholarship - 80%

Teaches classes and conducts / presents research in the employee's academic discipline.

Service - 20%

Participates in service at the department, college, and university levels.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Counselor Education or a related field. If the doctorate is in a related field, candidates must have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a Counselor Education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
  • A primary identification with the profession of school counseling or mental health counseling.
  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship.
  • A thoughtful approach to recruiting, retention, and student success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Experience teaching in a CACREP-accredited counselor education program or clinical mental health agency experience.
  • A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant's career stage and supervisory experience.
  • Experience teaching in an online environment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a clinical mental health or school counselor.
  • Eligible or willing to become a licensed professional counselor in Georgia and willing to become a certified professional counselor supervisor.
  • Background or expertise in one or more of the following areas : mental health counseling, supervision, group counseling, career counseling, and human growth and development.
