Job Summary

The Department of Teacher Education in the Dewar College of Education and Human Services seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position beginning August 1, 2025.The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses face-to-face and online in the candidate¿s area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Department of Teacher Education is comprised of 27 faculty with 20 initial teacher, advanced teacher, and service degree programs.The department supports students at all levels of their career pathways and is a partner with schools and programs throughout the South Georgia region. The Dewar College of Education and Human Services prepares professionals for multiple roles in educational, business, and community settings. The College is home to five departments (Leadership, Technology, and Workforce Development, Teacher Education, Human Services, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Library and Information Studies). The Dewar College of Education and Human Services is approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) and is an American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) award-winning institution.In addition, several of the college programs are accredited or nationally recognized by their specialized professional organization.

Responsibilities

Department Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate-level in the Department of Teacher Education; supervising field experiences and clinical practice; fostering relationships with teachers and administrators across the state and supporting schools within the region; mentoring candidates of different cultures and backgrounds; maintaining scholarly productivity; and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

Teaching and scholarship - 80%

Teaches classes and conducts / presents research in the employee's academic discipline.

Service - 20%

Participates in service at the department, college, and university levels.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Health and Physical Education or a closely related field by appointment date;
  • Successful college-level teaching in physical education courses;
  • Commitment to student retention and success;
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in the use of technology for teaching and learning;
  • Face-to-face and online teaching experience;
  • A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant¿s career stage;
  • Knowledge of data-informed and research-based practices;
  • K-12 teaching experience;
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
  • A record of mentoring students
