Responsibilities
- Supervises activities of the Plant Operators and Senior Operators. Provides leadership to team members regarding daily activities. Works with other supervisors to fill in for shift vacancies. Supervises activities for Utilities & Engineering Services team members on site when the maintenance supervisor is unavailable. Ensures that plant maintains housekeeping to an acceptable level. Recommends and participates in actions relative to recruitment, employee commendation, and disciplinary actions as appropriate. Participate in the development of a training plan for each team member. Assign team members to training programs as required. Lead team members in team building and continuous improvement activities. Responsible for the safe operation of the shift including, but not limited to : operation of the equipment within equipment ratings, OSHA, and FSU standards, use of appropriate PPE for shift team members when working, assisting with the development of JSA (job safety analysis) procedures to maintain a safe work environment, compliance with the FSU first report of injury requirements, compliance with all FSU and Utilities & Engineering Services safety rules.
- Lead the shift in the principles of TPP (Total Productive Maintenance). Report issues to Utilities & Engineering Services that require non-operational levels of maintenance. Work to ensure that problems found on daily equipment inspections are either corrected or reported to maintenance for correction. Complete basic operations level preventive maintenance. Communicates FSU policies and procedures to the shift team members. Communicates major campus equipment issues with the appropriate maintenance group. Provides Utilities & Engineering Services leadership team with critical information during outages. Provides communication to Utilities & Engineering Services customers regarding outages, schedules, or equipment issues. Prepares work requests for the Service Center to report know problems that require repair. Communicates all FSU events, general campus information, etc. to team members.
- Responsible for maintaining the efficient operation of the campus steam and chilled water plants and distribution systems. Ensure that the chemical treatment system is working properly to protect the boilers and chillers. Assist the shift team members in understanding production cost and how their efforts can impact cost. Ensure that the plant remains in environmental compliance during the shift including : compliance with the DEP air permit VE standards, accurate logging of data required for the annual DEP Air Permit Report, and appropriate handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
- Operates University vehicles as necessary and performs other related duties in support of the department.
