What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Insight Pipe Contracting?
Position Overview: This position is responsible for supporting the Sales & Estimating Department in the creation and preparation of bids and sales proposals.
Job Summary - Essential Job Functions:
A. Review bid specifications and sales proposal documents
B. Develop and maintain timelines for bids and proposal submittals
C. Make arrangements to acquire plans and specifications
D. Establish communications with engineers and owners to review job requirements
E. Review video inspections and reports
F. Prepare, input, and update data in Excel spreadsheets for job-cost estimating
G. Establish communications with potential vendors and subcontractors and request quotes for specific bids and proposals
H. Submit contracts to subcontractors, as directed
I. Prepare and submit price quotes, as directed
J. Attend pre-bid meetings, as required
K. Perform jobsite visits to obtain relative job-costing information
L. Prepare bid pricing
M. Fill out bid documents
N. Deliver bids and proposals
O. Submit for bidders lists and bid results
P. Communicate with Operations for production requirements on bids and proposals
Q. Review industry publications for potential bid opportunities
R. Perform other tasks as directed by the President, Vice President, and Chief Estimator
General Expectations:
A. Work from approximately 6:45am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday (exact days and hours are subject to change based on current needs and workload)
B. Maintain communication with the President, Vice President, Chief Estimator, Administrative Manager, Operations Manager, Project Manager(s), Superintendent(s), and Foremen.
C. Submit daily reports of the previous day’s notable activity by 8am, daily
D. Ensure Company compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations
E. Maintain positive relationships with all clients and Company personnel
F. Continually increase personal knowledge of market trends and industry changes, competition, new products/services, and potential strategic partners by maintaining relationships with industry associations and other industry related activities
G. Always keep the “good of the Company” in mind when making all business decisions, while maintaining a high level of professionalism with employees, customers, vendors, suppliers, and the public
Minimum Requirements:
A. Strong computer skills (MS Office Applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with an emphasis on robust Excel competencies
B. Strong and professional communication skills; both written and oral
C. Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time
D. Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills
E. Strong mathematical aptitude
F. Quick leaner with the ability to rapidly modify approach in response to changes and challenges
G. Strong problem solving and decision-making ability
H. Must have a minimum Class C driver’s license
I. Physical requirements include sitting, standing, walking, bending, light lifting (typically less than 25lbs), and driving a vehicle
