The Tax Manager serves as a key leader within the tax department, overseeing complex tax engagements, managing client relationships, and supervising professional staff. This position requires advanced technical knowledge, excellent project management skills, and the ability to deliver strategic tax planning and compliance services to individuals, businesses, and organizations.
- Manage a diverse portfolio of business and individual tax clients, ensuring high-quality service delivery and timely completion of engagements
- Plan, execute, and review complex tax returns for corporations, partnerships, S-corporations, LLCs, high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and estates
- Lead tax planning initiatives to identify tax savings opportunities and develop strategic recommendations for clients
- Review staff work and provide constructive feedback to ensure accuracy and compliance with tax laws and regulations
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and proactive advisory services
- Respond to IRS and state tax notices and represent clients in tax audits and examinations
- Research complex tax issues and provide technical guidance to clients and staff
- Monitor legislative changes and assess their impact on client tax positions
- Coach, mentor, and develop tax staff to enhance technical skills and professional growth
- Contribute to practice development through networking, proposal preparation, and client presentations
- Participate in firm management initiatives and strategic planning
- Collaborate with other service lines to identify cross-selling opportunities
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; Master's in Taxation preferred
- 7 years of progressive public accounting experience with emphasis on tax
- Active CPA license required
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state tax laws, with particular focus on New Jersey and New York tax regulations
- Experience managing complex tax engagements and supervising professional staff
- Strong technical skills in corporate, partnership, and individual taxation
- Proficiency with tax preparation software (CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, UltraTax, or similar)
- Excellent project management abilities and attention to detail
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain client relationships
- Experience with tax planning, research, and consulting services
- Industry specialization in real estate, professional services, or manufacturing a plus
