About ATDM
ATDM is a federally funded program training adults in the skills needed to complete the skills gap in submarine building and repair. Those skills include Additive Manufacturing, Welding, CNC Machining, Quality Control Inspection, and Nondestructive Testing.
About the Role
You will be manage, oversee, and support the Instructional Team, which consists of Instructors and Technicians, staff members, and students who attend classes during either an assigned shift. The Manager will provide guidance and leadership for all program operations on the shift, ensuring that all aspects run safely, smoothly, and efficiently during the off-shifts. The Manager acts as the point of contact for both the Instructional Team and management, effectively bridging the gap between the two.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensure Instructors and Technicians manage classes and deliver instruction properly.
- Monitor safety protocols and adherence to program policies.
- Ensure operational efficiency during off-shifts and address operational issues.
- Maintain productivity and meet ATDM goals.
- Communicate effectively, provide updates, relay important information, report on shift activities, and maintain records.
- Handle unexpected situations and make sound, proactive decisions aligned with ATDM objectives.
- Manage staffing issues.
- Support Student Services, Career Services, and other ATDM areas for student support on off-shifts.
- Coordinate with Instructors for Soft Skills training and student employment preparation.
Work Location
We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA
Shift Availability
You will primarily work second shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with flexibility to work other times as needed.
Qualifications
The Ideal Candidate
- Strong leadership and supervision skills including experience as a leader or manager in a similar employment, manufacturing environment, or academic environment.
- Experience managing people in a manufacturing environment highly desired.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Creative thinking/problem solving attitude.
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Technical math proficiency
- Demonstrated ability to work with a widely diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
- Evidence of successful work experience as a team member.
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Time management skills.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups.
- Microsoft Office proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office products. Strong MS Excel skills preferred.
- Self-starter and able to work independently following written and verbal instructions, as well as work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Manufacturing experience in areas such as Machining or Welding.
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate degree or equivalent or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to move freely between facilities.
- Must be able to operate and manipulate a keyboard.
- Light physical work may be required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
