The Law Clerk assists attorneys with various tasks, including conducting legal research and drafting documents. They play a vital role in preparing for trials, hearings, and client meetings, as well as summarizing case law and legal precedents.
Specifically:
- Legal Research:
- Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, regulations, and legal precedents.
- Prepare detailed research memoranda of research findings and relevant legal principles.
- Drafting Legal Documents:
- Draft legal documents, including briefs, memoranda, pleadings, and motions.
- Case Preparation:
- Help in the preparation of discovery requests and responses, and review documents for relevance and privilege.
- Attend client meetings, depositions, and court hearings as needed, and take notes or provide support.
- Client Interaction:
- Maintain client confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Assist with the preparation of case summaries, timelines, and litigation strategies.
- Review and Analysis:
- Review evidence and case materials to identify key issues and relevant information.
- Analyze legal issues and prepare memoranda to assist attorneys in case strategy.
- Current enrollment in an accredited law school, pursuing a Juris Doctor (JD) degree or a graduate of an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- Previous clerkship experience a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Fluency in Spanish a plus.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
