The Sr. Claims Coverage Counsel will be responsible to research and provide legal advice and opinions to claims handlers on coverage issues arising from the company’s insurance contracts, including auto and general liability; specialty (e.g. management liability & professional liability); and first party property and marine coverages, Long Tail Lines, Surety, Trade Credit etc.
- Responsible for providing high-level legal advice and guidance to our Claims teams.
- Prepare coverage position letters on selected high complexity / exposure claims.
- Partner with claim handlers to develop strategies that optimally resolve coverage disputes.
- Assisting in preparing witnesses, discovery, selecting and managing panel counsel, and delivering better litigation management processes.
- Manage selective coverage litigation brought by or against the Company.
- Review and approve proposed coverage actions brought on behalf of the Company.
- Research, analyze and provide recovery and loss mitigation advice to claim colleagues on claims of varying complexity, including drafting / reviewing settlement agreements.
- Refine policy interpretation / coverage analysis skills including drafting coverage opinions with case law included. Advise on associated legal issues, as required.
- Provide legal support and input for various legal matters.
