What we do

Integer Technologies is an applied research and product development company founded by scientists and engineers with a passion for protecting freedom with innovation. We perform R&D on next-generation systems and technologies for the Department of Defense and other U.S. Government agencies. We are hardware and software developers with experience transforming research into fieldable technology. Our core portfolio of research includes projects in power & energy systems, unmanned systems (with an emphasis on maritime systems), digital engineering, cyber security, and advanced manufacturing. Our mission is to create a safer world by translating scientific discoveries into reliable products that address urgent national security needs... at the speed of relevance.

We are growing a portfolio of applied research projects aimed at increasing the cyber resilience of cyber-physical systems fielded by the Navy. We are also developing a new cyber resilience and penetration testing framework to improve resilience of the future hybrid uncrewed / crewed fleet. This framework will be a key enabler for autonomous systems to be vetted against anomalies and / or adversarial attacks. Additionally, our power & energy systems portfolio includes work supporting the DoD's the electrification of platforms beginning with Navy ships. Our uncrewed systems portfolio includes work on critical enabling technologies for more reliable, more intelligent, and longer-duration unmanned systems. Our advanced manufacturing portfolio includes works to improve the throughput and quality of high-temperature composite parts used in advanced military aerospace systems. Integer's diverse portfolio of novel R&D programs also means that we are uniquely positioned to provide feedback to the government on what emerging technologies exist that can fill specific capability gaps for the Department of Defense over various time horizons.

  • About the Role

Integer seeks a Principal Cyber-Physical Security Engineer with proven expertise in designing, developing, and rigorously testing systems to ensure robust cyber security measures are embedded within complex systems having tightly integrated physical and software components. This position requires a deep understanding of the cyber physical research landscape, coupled with the acumen to identify, and address gaps in Department of Defense capabilities, and to pursue new cyber physical systems research projects. A qualified candidate will have experience with operational cyber research for advanced autonomous systems, industrial control systems, and / or maritime vessels. The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in crafting sophisticated security solutions that enhance the operational integrity and resilience of uncrewed and autonomous maritime systems.

This role requires the ability to lead and mentor other engineers and interface with Integer's research partners for large, multi-year research projects working on increasing the cyber resilience of autonomous systems and the strength of the Navy's capabilities in the cyber battlespace. Integer's operating model is to provide a vehicle to turn academic science and technology research topics into tangible technology for the Department of Defense. As such, much of our work entails developing solutions for complex problems that presently have no known solutions. To achieve both internal and customer project goals all candidates must have a diverse set of experiences with systems at multiple levels of development, including early-stage design and field deployments.

    Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Principal Engineer for cyber research programs, with an emphasis on offensive cyber security methods for cyber physical systems on maritime platforms.
  • Use prior experience and hands-on development skills to construct new vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, red-teaming, and reverse engineering tools for maritime autonomous systems.
  • Engineer sophisticated cybersecurity measures, including AI / ML security tools, to enhance the resilience of autonomous systems.
  • Create and analyze models of cyber-physical systems.
  • Contribute to the architecture design, development, and deployment of an attack emulation cyber-physical resilience stress test platform that simulates sophisticated cyber threats.
  • Develop and implement security protocols for real-time and near real-time decision-making architectures and operator-in-the-loop configurations.
  • Mentor researchers and engineers on toolsets, best practices, and state-of-the-art methods in cyber research, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Core Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field (e.g., cybersecurity, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other related field) and 10 years of experience relevant to primary responsibilities outlined above.
  • Master's degree in relevant field and 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong background in computer and network architecture and operating systems.
  • Conducted research on topics related to cyber-physical systems such as Internet of Things (IoT), Intelligent Sensors, Autonomous Systems, Industrial Control Systems, or other related topics.
  • Experience with developing software with general purpose languages in a research and / or production environment such as Python, C, C .
  • Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in relevant field (e.g., cybersecurity, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other related field) and 4 years of industry experience.
  • Experience with cyber research involving maritime or Navy platforms (e.g., automation and sensor systems onboard maritime vessels and / or uncrewed maritime systems).
  • Proven expertise in the analysis, design, and development of algorithms and software integral to an integrated cyber-physical resilience stress testing platform for unmanned underwater and surface vessels (UUVs, USVs).
  • Experience using Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI / ML) models to develop advanced cyber security tools.
  • Experience with vulnerability assessment, exploit development, and / or reverse engineering for cyber-physical systems with AI / ML-based controllers or automation software (e.g., experience conducting research targeting AI / ML models within an autonomous systems' decision loop).
