What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional Director of Engineering, PowerServe position at Integrated Power Services?
Responsibilities & Expectations:
The Regional Director of Engineering is responsible for leading engineering for a defined region and driving strategic growth initiatives for PowerServe. In this leadership role, the Director of Engineering will act as a subject matter expert, providing in-depth electrical engineering solutions and regularly performing engineering studies for complex projects. This position will also take a lead role in mentoring and training Electrical Engineers and sales teams, ensuring they can provide world-class solutions and quality services to IPS customers.
- Perform engineering studies and create new engineering study templates, ensuring compliance with all industry standards such as NFPA 70, IEEE 1584, NFPA 70E and other applicable standards.
- Adopt lean methods on creating and delivering reports on engineering projects to increase efficiency and improve overall financial performance.
- Provide technical training to the engineering team on engineering software, relay upgrades, creating SOO/MOP, and other new business items.
- Provide training to the sales team on creating proposals for engineering projects & studies, leading PMD cross-selling initiatives, and assisting sales with closing high value sales orders such as capital projects, major outages, and multi-site/multi-year contracts.
- Facilitate PowerServe engineering collaboration with other PMD and EMD engineering resources.
- Perform research on innovative engineering ideas and industry trends (DC energy, EV charging, BESS, electrical hazard mitigation), expanding IPS engineering capabilities based on market and customer needs.
- Author papers, create tutorials and presentations involving the engineering team and participate in major conferences – NETA/IEEE/TSDOS/PEARL, etc.
- Provide technical support to the safety team regarding incident investigations and updating safety forms (JSHA/ESWP/EEWP), and safety standards (ESP/EAP).
- Assist recruiting and HR team on recruiting process by attending career fairs, providing guest lectures in academic institutions, and updating the internal skills matrix.
- Lead and contribute to the management initiatives on improving engineering retention by creating a career progression plan, personal development, licensure support, mentorship program, etc.
- Consolidate engineering resources such as software licensure/ standard subscriptions, and act as a point of contact for Power Serve engineering. Act as a liaison between engineers and the admin team on updating renewals as needed.
- Assist marketing team on creating literature (articles/brochures/flyers) on spreading awareness on new engineering ideas and expanding both internal and external outreach on Power Serve engineering capabilities.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required; educational focus in Power Systems studies preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 10 years of relevant experience preferred
- Experience in short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash and power quality studies
- Experience using SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, EasyPower, or other power system modeling software
- Experience performing protective relay projects highly preferred
- Willingness to be hands and work in the field alongside our field technicians required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Must have knowledge of low, medium, and high voltage up to 500 kV
- Utility design experience a plus
- Clear verbal and written communication required
