Job description:
The Lab Technician II is responsible for asphalt mixture production and testing. The position also will help with day-to-day operation and management of materials warehouse.
- Train on aggregate and asphalt mixture testing until proficient with each test according to ASTM/AASHTO test procedures.
- The applicant will be responsible for aggregate testing and data analysis.
- Perform accurate asphalt mixture preparation and testing.
- Conduct mechanical testing of bituminous specimens in the Pavement Performance Testing Laboratory.
- Acquires and maintains Hazardous Material Shipping Certification
- Performs accurate asphalt binder testing.
- Performs extraction and binder recovery.
- Knowledge of the components, operating characteristics, and limitations of engineering systems and processes particular to their area of specialization.
- Maintain database of test results and control access to this database. Make results easily accessible to technical personnel.
- Look for ways to streamline the efficiency of testing procedures and laboratory practices.
- Improve tests and equipment by mechanical, electrical, of other means as necessary.
- Maintenance tasks involve light mechanical duties and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associates or higher technical degree in a science or engineering-related discipline.
- A minimum of one year experience in related industry preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety policies and procedures, chemical hazards, and other precautions to promote an effective and safe workplace.
- Working knowledge of mix design processes preferred.
- Strong ability to manage projects and be self-directed.
- Computer proficiency including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to read and follow ASTM/AASHTO test procedures to generate data.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
