What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Designer (CAD Technician) position at Integrated Science & Engineering?
Integrated Science & Engineering, Inc. (ISE) seeks a CIVIL DESIGNER (CAD Technician) to join our team. The
Designer utilizes advanced AutoCAD Civil 3D design skills, comprehensive experience, and knowledge of the civil
engineering discipline to collaborate closely with a Project Engineer or Survey Manager in the setting up,
generation, and production of civil drawings and contract documents for projects involving streets, utilities,
grading and drainage elements. The Designer must represent the Company with quality and timely deliverables
in concert with knowledge and understanding of the project objectives. The Designer works with limited
direction, under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer or Surveyor.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities.
Familiar with relevant codes/standards and have awareness of emerging industry practices
Able to provide input for the resolution of engineering queries from clients or third parties
Possess advanced and demonstrable AutoCAD Civil 3D design skills; efficient and highly proficient in:
o Importing GIS data
o Processing survey data
o Creating surfaces (both existing, proposed and volume)
o Creating pipe networks (gravity as a minimum, prefer experience with pressure pipes also)
o Creating profiles, corridors, and cross-sections
o Estimating quantities
o Creating presentation quality graphics
o Creating construction drawings
o Utilizing data references
o Collaboration over geographically separated resources
o Training other designers and engineers in the effective use of Civil 3D
o Skilled in the operation of all facets of Civil 3D version not more than two editions older than
current edition
Working knowledge of engineering principles related to civil/site, infrastructure and roadways
Working knowledge of construction specifications and plans, as well as applicable regulations
Basic knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, codes, and policies governing discipline of expertise
Able to effectively work both independently and as a part of a larger team, on multiple, short-duration
assignments or on single, large, multi-discipline projects across geographic distances
Able to manage the pressures associated with fast-paced environments, critical design tolerances and
tight schedules
Knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques of modern construction
Able to estimate required production resources necessary, prepare proposals, and execute the work in
budget and on schedule
Requirements.
Associates Degree in AutoCAD/Drafting or equivalent preferred
3 years of experience in the operation of Autodesk Civil 3D software and preparation of engineering
drawings required
Experience in the use of Autodesk Map, HEC-RAS, and AutoTurn preferred
Experience in site and infrastructure design, both working as part of a team and independently
Experience in drawing development (plan and profile sheets, cross-sections, typical sections, detail
sheets)
Capable of adhering to existing company CAD/Quality Standards, utilizing them properly and accurately
Ability to demonstrate advanced level Civil 3D skills while collaborating under the supervision of a
Professional Engineer or Surveyor
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
Must be willing to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed
