DESCRIPTION
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards. This position requires a strong background in accounting principles, financial analysis, and team leadership. The Controller will manage and mentor a team, ensuring that the financial health of the company is maintained and improved. The Controller will work closely with senior management to develop strategies for financial growth, cost control, and process improvement. A key focus of this role is identifying financial trends and implementing solutions to drive operational efficiency and profitability.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and mentor a team providing guidance and support in their professional development.
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of monthly and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory requirements.
- Develop, implement, and monitor financial systems, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency and ensure compliance with financial controls.
- Manage the budgeting and forecasting process, collaborating with department heads to align financial goals with organizational objectives.
- Review financial reports and performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations to senior management for business strategy and decision-making.
- Manage cash flow, ensuring that financial obligations are met while maintaining adequate liquidity for day-to-day operations.
- Prepare and present financial reports, including variance analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs), to executive leadership and stakeholders.
- Oversee internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial records and responses to audit inquiries.
- Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, including cost-saving initiatives and investment strategies.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including preparing tax filings, coordinating with external auditors, and staying informed on tax law changes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, production, and installation, to align financial strategies with business objectives.
- Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and ensure the integrity of financial data through regular reconciliations and internal controls.
- Monitor and improve financial systems and processes, recommending and implementing enhancements to optimize financial operations.
- Stay updated with changes in financial regulations, accounting standards, and industry best practices.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that financial practices are always evolving to meet the company’s growing needs.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- 5 years of experience in accounting and financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Expertise in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms) and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with internal controls, risk management, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage, mentor, and develop a financial team, both in-office and remotely.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Experience with tax filings, financial audits, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while handling multiple priorities.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and integrity in all financial activities.
- Experience in cost management, financial modeling, and profitability analysis is a plus.
