Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead and oversee the engineering design and development of industrial projects in Pineville, LA. The ideal candidate will have 15 years of experience in mechanical, piping, civil, structural, electrical, and HVAC system design within the Chemical, FMCG, Pharmaceutical, Oil & Gas, or Manufacturing industries. The Design Manager will be responsible for managing multi-disciplinary design teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, coordinating with vendors, and supporting construction and commissioning activities. This role requires strong expertise in rotating/static equipment, piping systems, plant layout, and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design Leadership & Project Execution • Lead and manage the end-to-end design process, ensuring alignment with project goals, schedules, and budgets. • Oversee the development of mechanical, piping, civil, structural, HVAC, and electrical designs for industrial projects. • Ensure that all designs adhere to engineering best practices, industry standards (ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, ISO, OSHA), and regulatory requirements. • Work closely with project managers, construction teams, and operations personnel to ensure smooth project execution.
2. Multi-Disciplinary Coordination • Supervise and coordinate mechanical, piping, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and HVAC design teams. • Collaborate with process engineers, procurement teams, and site construction teams to optimize design efficiency. • Review and approve design specifications, drawings, calculations, and engineering deliverables. • Conduct design reviews, HAZOP studies, and risk assessments to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
3. Vendor & Contractor Coordination • Manage relationships with vendors, consultants, and EPC contractors to ensure timely and accurate design execution. • Review and approve vendor drawings, technical specifications, and material submittals. • Support procurement teams by ensuring compliance with equipment and material specifications. • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and vendor site visits to ensure compliance with design requirements.
4. Site Support & Construction Coordination • Provide technical support to site teams during construction, installation, and commissioning phases. • Ensure that as-built drawings, red-line markups, and final documentation are completed and aligned with design intent. • Support troubleshooting and resolution of design-related issues during construction and startup. • Work closely with construction managers and site engineers to validate design feasibility.
5. Compliance & Quality Assurance • Ensure that all designs meet regulatory, environmental, and safety compliance requirements. • Oversee quality control processes and design validation/testing procedures. • Conduct periodic design audits and technical evaluations to improve engineering practices.
6. Stakeholder Communication & Reporting • Provide regular project design status updates to senior management and project stakeholders. • Maintain documentation for design approvals, changes, and risk assessments. • Work closely with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal teams to ensure project success.
Key Skills & Competencies: • Strong expertise in mechanical, piping, civil, structural, HVAC, and electrical design for industrial plants. • In-depth knowledge of rotating/static equipment, process piping, plant layout, and process safety standards. • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDMS, SmartPlant 3D, Revit, and BIM tools. • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and team management skills. • Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and vendors.
