Job Summary:
Seeking an experienced Utilities Engineer with engineering, procurement and construction management support experience in FMCG, or pharmaceutical industry.
Utility engineer will closely work with client and support in following areas
a. Following up with design consultant regarding design readiness /closure
b. Closure of Engineering deliverables – Addressing the concerns offline vs meeting
c. Following up with internal/external stake holders for utility CPS and all activities before end dates
d. Field verification – arranging meetings between Client /Consultant /Vendors wherever necessary
e. Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and external vendors to ensure seamless project execution
f. Support construction execution planning
Experience in pharmaceutical HVAC design, including cleanroom environments, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and contamination control, will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Industrial HVAC System Design & Engineering
• Design and develop HVAC systems for industrial applications, including air handling units (AHUs), ventilation, ductwork, chilled water systems, and process cooling systems.
• Perform heat load calculations, psychrometric analysis, and airflow distribution design for critical process areas.
• Develop and review HVAC layouts, P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams), and GA (General Arrangement) drawings.
• Ensure proper selection of chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, fans, pumps, and dehumidification systems based on process requirements.
• Design cleanroom HVAC systems, including airlocks, HEPA/ULPA filtration, pressure balancing, and air change rate calculations.
• Optimize airflow distribution and humidity control for pharmaceutical, chemical, and FMCG manufacturing facilities.
• Ensure HVAC system integration with fire safety, building management systems (BMS), and energy recovery systems.
2. Mechanical & Piping Design
• Develop piping layouts, isometrics, and support structures using industry-standard tools.
• Review P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams) and GA (General Arrangement) drawings for equipment and piping.
• Ensure proper pump, compressor, heat exchanger, and tank selection based on process requirements.
• Coordinate with process, electrical, instrumentation, and civil engineers to ensure seamless design integration.
3. Project Execution & Field Support
• Work closely with project teams to ensure timely execution of mechanical and piping designs.
• Prepare BOQs (Bill of Quantities) and procurement specifications.
• Provide on-site support during equipment installation, commissioning, and startup.
• Assist in resolving field issues related to mechanical, HVAC and piping systems.
• Conduct site surveys, as-built documentation, and design modifications as required.
• Collaborate with fabrication and construction teams to resolve site-related issues.
• Provide on-site technical support during HVAC system installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Ensure compliance with HVAC design, safety, and quality standards during installation.
• Conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning checks, including system validation, airflow balancing, and pressure testing.
• Work closely with construction teams to review HVAC ducting, piping, and insulation installations for quality assurance.
• Conduct as-built documentation and coordinate any design modifications required during construction
4. Compliance with Engineering Standards & Regulations
• Ensure HVAC designs comply with ASHRAE, ISHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, ISO, OSHA, USFDA, EU GMP, WHO GMP, and other regulatory requirements.
• Develop and maintain engineering design calculations, HVAC specifications, and datasheets.
• Conduct energy efficiency analysis and recommend improvements in HVAC performance.
• Perform CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations for airflow and thermal distribution optimization.
• Conduct risk assessment and failure mode analysis (FMEA) for HVAC critical systems.
5. Vendor Coordination & Support
• Liaise with HVAC, equipment vendors, suppliers, and contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Review vendor proposals, specifications, and technical documentation, providing feedback and approvals.
• Conduct technical discussions and negotiations with vendors for the selection of HVAC equipment.
• Participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), and third-party inspections.
• Address and resolve vendor-related non-conformities or deviations from project specifications.
Key Skills & Competencies:
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or similar for piping and equipment modelling.
• Ability to work with ERP systems and engineering document management software.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, psychometrics, and heat transfer.
• Experience in cleanroom HVAC design, pharmaceutical HVAC validation, and air filtration systems.
• Ability to interpret HVAC layouts, equipment specifications, and airflow distribution diagrams.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and regulatory compliance awareness.
• Excellent communication, vendor management, and teamwork abilities.
