ABOUT THE ROLE :
The Development and Communications Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the fundraising and strategic communications activities of the organization. The Development and Communications Director duties include the following :
Work with the Executive Director, Development & Communications Committee, and staff to develop and update the annual resource development and strategic communications plansLead the Development & Communications team to implement strategic communications, marketing, and resource development efforts to build awareness and sustainabilityManage activities to achieve fundraising goals, including maintaining and building relationships with donors, foundations, corporations, and community partnersOversee all fundraising efforts, including annual giving campaigns, major gifts, corporate partnerships, grant writing, and special eventsOversee annual fundraising events (e.g., Honoring the Brave Golf Tournament and Honoring the Brave Breakfast), including coordinating staff and volunteers to assist in eventsLead grant writing and reporting efforts, including managing the grants calendar and collaborating with the Program Director to track data for grantsManage donor cultivation and stewardship efforts, including maintaining the donor database and ensuring timely reporting and acknowledgment of gifts while ensuring the confidentiality and privacy of donorsUpdate resource development dashboard and reports to monitor and analyze fundraising and revenue data, evaluate performance, and adjust strategies as neededManage strategic communications and marketing initiatives, including overseeing content and tracking analytics for the website, e-newsletter, mailings, blog, and social mediaOversee the creation of all communications and marketing materials in accordance with brand guidelines to increase awareness and supportServe as the primary contact for the media, including writing and distributing press releases, coordinating spokespeople and experts, and acting as a media spokesperson as neededCollaborate with the Program Director and staff to communicate the organization's impact to all stakeholdersKeep current on policies, legislation, rules, and regulations to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to fundraising and development activitiesMonitor current and developing trends in philanthropy to inform resource development activitiesRepresent the organization at military, veteran, and community events.Other duties as assignedKEY QUALIFICATIONS :
Minimum Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university; Master's Degree preferredMust have three or more years of demonstrated successful experience in nonprofit resource development and fundraisingExperience working with service members, veterans, and family membersOther combinations of experience and education that meet minimum qualifications may be consideredKnowledge of donor databases and social media platforms preferredExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to network and build relationships with individuals, agencies, corporations, and other stakeholdersThe individual who fills this position must be able to work independently and be a team player, with a strong commitment to the mission of assisting service members, veterans, and their families. Must have excellent written communication, as well as public speaking and presentation skills, and the ability to network and build relationships with individuals, agencies, and other stakeholders
