The Director, Development Impact & Communications serves as the visionary leader behind a comprehensive, multi-channel communications strategy for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation (USOPF), the philanthropic arm of the USOPC. This pivotal role ensures the development and delivery of cohesive, compelling messaging that inspires donors, amplifies the Foundation's mission, and showcases the transformative power of philanthropic contributions in driving success for Team USA athletes and programs.
By spearheading strategic storytelling, innovative content creation, and data-driven digital engagement, the Director actively enhances the Foundation's ability to secure transformational gifts and deepen donor relationships. Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders, this leader strategically integrates communication efforts into fundraising initiatives, ensuring alignment with revenue goals and elevating the foundation's visibility and influence on a national scale.

1. Shape and implement a strategic, long-term communications plan to strengthen donor engagement, retention, and acquisition, ensuring alignment with organizational growth objectives and ambitious fundraising targets.
1. Provide senior-level guidance to the Engagement team, developing cohesive and impactful messaging for events, promotional materials, and donor touchpoints that inspire giving and build loyalty.
1. Collaborate with the Analytics & Growth team to integrate data-driven insights into communication strategies, enhancing donor engagement and refining outreach to achieve transformational fundraising outcomes.
1. Establish and monitor key performance metrics to measure the success of communication initiatives, identifying innovative opportunities to optimize donor-focused content and engagement channels.
1. Lead the development of strategic communication efforts for major fundraising campaigns, crafting compelling case messaging and storytelling that motivate donors and strengthen support for the Foundation's initiatives.
1. Oversee high-profile donor communications, including materials related to the Olympic & Paralympic Games and the USOPF Hospitality Program, ensuring consistency and alignment across all giving levels to maximize donor impact.
Impact, Content, & Storytelling Excellence (35%)
1. Direct the creation of a diverse portfolio of donor-facing materials, including annual reports, case statements, newsletters, fundraising collateral, videos, press releases, and social media content, ensuring quality and alignment with organizational and divisional priorities.
1. Ensure a deep application of the Foundation's messaging pyramid by creating a unified communications framework that fosters a sense of belonging and highlights each donor's unique connection to the Movement.
1. Drive a unified, mission-driven narrative that effectively communicates the USOPF's purpose, showcases donor contributions, and strengthens emotional connections to Team USA athletes and programs, supporting increased donor engagement.
1. Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal stakeholders, ensuring that messaging remains consistent across all campaigns, events, and digital platforms while reinforcing the Foundation's brand and fundraising objectives.
1. Lead the design and execution of digital communication strategies, including email marketing, website content, and social media campaigns, to extend donor reach and drive engagement across multiple channels.

Program Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration (30%)
1. Act as the primary strategic liaison between the USOPF and the broader USOPC Communications Team, embedding philanthropic messaging into organizational communications to amplify fundraising initiatives.
1. Provide strategic counsel and leadership to the Development division, ensuring donor messaging is seamlessly integrated into enterprise-wide fundraising campaigns and donor engagement strategies.
1. Hire, mentor, support, coach, motivate, and develop teams to maximize collective performance. Create an atmosphere for outstanding teamwork through clear expectations, frequent communication, and providing fair and consistent feedback. Manage performance of team members effectively.
1. Oversee and manage the USOPF Communications budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation and alignment with organizational priorities to maximize donor-focused outcomes. Partner with Finance to ensure accurate financial reporting is completed.
1. Cultivate and manage relationships with external contractors, creative agencies, and vendors, setting clear expectations, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring alignment with the Foundation's fundraising goals.
1. Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to align storytelling with organizational priorities, enhancing the Foundation's visibility and driving philanthropic success.
1. Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the Development division.
Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective :
- Bachelor's degree with preferred emphasis in Strategic Communications, Non-Profit Management, or Business Administration or equivalent work experience
- Advanced degree a plus
- 10 years of experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, and / or development, with a focus on storytelling, donor engagement, and digital strategy
- Demonstrated success in leading communication efforts for large-scale or comprehensive campaigns, including capital campaigns
- Experience managing diverse, multi-disciplinary teams across geographically dispersed locations
- Proven ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with high-net-worth individuals and donor communities
- Strong track record of managing communications budgets and overseeing contractors, creative agencies, and internal stakeholders
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and craft persuasive messages
- Expertise in digital marketing, including social media strategy, email campaigns, and website content management
- Proficiency in donor databases (e.g., Salesforce) and analytics tools to track communication effectiveness
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and manage competing demands
- Ability to think creatively, solve problems strategically, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to maintaining donor privacy
- Graphic design and / or exceptional PowerPoint skills a plus
