What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Mechanical Operations position at Inter-Rail Mechanical?
I. Description of Position
· Fundamentals of this position consist of managing the operations of a specific railroad or railroads to exceed customer expectations while making sure IRT remains FRA/AAR compliant. Train all team members at facilities to work safely and produce quality work. Perform unannounced visits on a regular basis. Position will be based at a specific facility; responsibilities include overseeing the daily activities of that and outlying facilities.
II. Qualifications Standards
· Individual must have high school diploma and 5 years of experience in railcar repair. Must have expertise in FRA and AAR inspection and repair standards as well as familiarity with AAR MSRP Section N. Professional attitude and presentation required. Must possess the ability to train and motivate employees. Individual must hold a valid driver’s license, pass background check and drug test. Must have excellent organizational skills and communication skills. Individual will be trained on the Departmental Objectives. Must have working knowledge of computer systems i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc.
III. Organizational Relationships
· Manager of Mechanical Operations will report directly to the General Manager. Internal contacts include CEO, President, VP's, Directors, GM’s, Managers, Supervisors, office managers, and corporate administrative contacts. External contacts will include manufacturer representatives, railcar owners, railroad representatives, maintenance vendors, and service provider vendors.
IV. Job Requirements / Responsibilities
· Cover daily operations in absence of facility Supervisor/Manager (leave of absences, terminations, vacations)
Oversee operation of both running repairs and heavy repairs (RIP Track) and auto rack pre-tripping
· Monitor material usage, and inventories for discrepancies
· Train new supervisors, and employees
· Assure there is an adequate workforce at assigned locations
· Participate in IRT and railroad conference calls
i. AAR audits
ii. Safety audits
iii. IRT Mechanical audits
· Available and able to perform the listed job requirements
· Maintain contact with General Manager and customers
· Other tasks as assigned
