SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Family Violence Prevention Advocate will provide direct services, advocacy, and coordinate emergency related services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, victims of crime, or other victimizations. This position will also proactively work with Nevada Tribal communities focusing on education, outreach and prevention. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week and requires some overnight travel related to client services or training opportunities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS including but not limited to:

  • Provide emergency services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, victims of crime, child and elder abuse, and other victimizations. Conduct thorough program intakes, initial danger assessments, ongoing crisis intervention, and general client advocacy, to victims from all races and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Work closely with Tribal Law Enforcement, Tribal Social Services, Tribal Court systems, and other related Native American and non-Native American agencies and organizations, to develop a network of resources available to clients and
  • Maintain adequate participant data, and statistical information for grant reporting and audit purposes.
  • Travel to outlying and rural Tribal communities to conduct presentations, training, workshops, and assist victims seeking assistance from the Family Violence Prevention Program (FVPP)
  • Develop educational material for presentations within the community, addressing direct services, and victimization topics, in relation to the Family Violence Prevention Program (FVPP) grant funding requirements.
  • Always maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings, morning huddles and other departmental meetings.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills; advocates will complete orders for clients, purchase basic needs, assist with providing shelter and submitting for payment through ITCN accounting system, and complete general office tasks regularly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and reliable
  • High school diploma
  • Experience working in domestic violence or social service-related field, preferred.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Must be available for frequent overnight travel to outlying areas and rural
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office with proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher and Media Design
  • Must have excellent computer skills;
  • Must have excellent writing and communication skills;
  • Ability to be on-call for client and victim calls 24 hours per day, 7 days per week;
  • Ability to work independently, but most importantly part of a team;
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service both internally and to clients and colleagues;
