What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transitional Housing Shelter Manager position at Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada?
SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Transitional Housing Shelter Manager will hold a crucial role in the daily oversight of residential operations by providing on-site support to residents, case management, facilitating support/educational groups, direct client services, and performing administrative duties. This position will also proactively work with Nevada tribal communities focusing on education, outreach, prevention, and awareness. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week and will require some overnight travel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, criminal justice, or related field.
· Must have a valid Driver’s License and reliable
· Experience working in domestic violence or social service-related field, preferred.
· Knowledge of grant-funded programs.
· Work independently with little supervision, but also interact warmly with a small team of dedicated staff and volunteers in a high-stress environment
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Administrative/Supervisory Duties:
· Lead all direct client services at the shelter and manage all operational and maintenance needs of the property.
· Effectively supervise and train shelter staff and provides guidance and counsel on professional development by conducting one-on-one supervisory sessions and facilitating weekly team meetings.
· Provide regular monitoring and feedback to staff on performance.
· Responsible for ensuring coverage/scheduling at the shelter.
· Coordinate scheduling and logistics for program-related meetings and events in accordance with federal/state award regulations, plans, and/or as determined by each program.
· Participates in the development and administration of programmatic goals, objectives, and procedures alongside the Program Director.
· Assisting in reviewing and submitting payment requests, billing, and travel related expenses.
· Monitor inventory of shelter supplies and obtain items as needed.
· Facilities upkeep and maintenance (including occasional deep cleaning with shelter residents).
· Filing, sorting, and data entry.
· Attend and participate in staff meetings, manager meetings, and trainings as requested.
· Assist with maintaining filing systems, including paper and digital client/donor databases.
· Attend trainings, conferences, workshops, as assigned.
· Provide support for outreach services (when applicable) such as networking, lectures, trainings, speaking engagements, and health fairs to increase public education and awareness on the issues of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, and available services.
· Other duties assigned by the Program Director
2. Advocacy Duties:
· Facilitate resident intakes and exit interviews
· Provide case management and crisis intervention services to shelter residents.
· Work closely with tribal law enforcement, tribal social services, tribal court systems, and other related Native American and non-Native American related agencies and organizations to develop a network of resources available to clients and victims.
· Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
· Facilitate conflict intervention for shelter residents
· Carry overnight and weekend emergency hotline phone on a regular basis
· Transport clients when necessary, and visit high-risk clients placed in motels
· Back up advocate
3. Outreach and Education Duties:
· Communicate program updates, policies, and changes to relevant stakeholders, meeting reporting and transparency requirements.
· Routine travel to outlying and rural tribal communities to conduct presentations, training workshops, and assist victims seeking assistance from program.
· Develop and implement prevention education trainings and workshops to business professionals
· Build, cultivate and maintain relationships with local businesses to assure on-going program participation and evaluation
· Support agency events through attendance as appropriate.
· Keep updated and communicate Tribal and other community events, outreach opportunities, news, etc.
· Keep updated on community resources
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
· Exceptional organization skills, ability to prioritize, and attention to detail.
· Be dependable & flexible
· Must possess a valid Nevada’s Driver’s license, a reliable vehicle with insurance and have a good driving record.
· Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to integrate and merge data from multiple programs including Access, Excel, Word, Power Point and Publisher.
· Must be committed to providing outstanding client services and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with clients and colleagues.
· Must be available for possible overnight travel to outlying areas and rural communities;
· Pass a comprehensive drug screen
· Ability to work independently, but most importantly part of a team;
· Knowledge of Nevada’s Native American/Tribal communities preferred.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
· Occasional bending and stooping, reaching above shoulder level and crouching as well as occasional pushing and pulling.
· Must have average hearing and visual acuity.
· Must have manual dexterity for keyboard and report writing.
