Network Engineer
Department: Central Office (CO)
Reports to: Network Operations Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt, Non-union
General Summary:
As a Network Engineer at InterBel, you will be responsible for technical leadership and planning for future technological needs. You will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining InterBel’s network infrastructure, including core routers, aggregation switches, data center infrastructure, VoIP networks, security systems, and transport networks. You will be tasked with ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our network services, troubleshooting issues, and leading optimization projects.
Essential Job Functions:
- Design & Deployment: Design, configure, and deploy network solutions to support high-speed internet services, including the network architecture needed to support wide scale IP services deployment.
- Network Monitoring: Continuously monitor network performance and resolve issues to maintain optimal performance, network capacity, and uptime. Establish and maintain IP-Transit and peering connectivity with selected content providers.
- Network Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot broadband systems to include routing/switching equipment, transport equipment, DHCP, DNS & DDOS servers and IP voice switching equipment.
- Security Management: Implement and uphold network security measures in collaboration with IT & Security Supervisor, including firewalls and VPNs, to protect network integrity.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the IT team to develop and execute network improvement and optimization initiatives. Serve as the primary contact with collocation providers for maintaining access, equipment, and cross-connects in an on-site capacity or through remote hands support.
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of network configurations, changes, and standard procedures.
Performance Testing: Conduct network performance tests and participate in capacity planning to ensure scalability, including software upgrades, while considering and mitigating customer impact. - Technology Updates: Stay abreast of the latest networking technologies and industry trends to inform strategic decisions and to provide leading edge products and services to InterBel’s customers.
- On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours network support, including outages.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS), including routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), switching, and network security. Working knowledge of Ethernet wiring standards, fiber and fiber optics technologies, and their applications in a carrier environment.
- Hardware Proficiency: Hands-on experience with network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) and related software. Ability to install and configure Cisco hardware such as routers, and switches.
- Troubleshooting Skills: Experience in network monitoring and troubleshooting tools, including connectivity problems and hardware failures.
- Security Acumen: Knowledge of network security best practices.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Network Design and Implementation: experience implementing network solutions, including routing and switching.
- Configuration and Optimization: Optimize network performance and efficiency through configuration adjustments and updates.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze network performance and troubleshoot complex issues.
Education and Experience:
- Required:
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in network engineering or a related role, but 2 years is preferable.
- Current Cisco CCNA Certificate or industry equivalents by time of hire.
- Working knowledge in Ethernet networks including 802.1ad, MPLS, EVPN, segment routing and G.8032.
- Strong understanding of telecom access technologies such as XGS and G-PON, Carrier Ethernet standards.
- Preferred:
- Associate's degree in computer science or related field but will consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.
- Understanding of VoIP applications and QoS.

**Please note, this is a hybrid position with the opportunity to work remotely. However, the applicant does need to reside within 60 miles of Eureka, which includes Whitefish, Columbia Falls, and Kalispell.**
Salary : $80,000 - $90,000
