Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Authorization Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive the necessary authorizations for medical services and procedures. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding, and insurance verification processes. The Authorization Specialist will work closely with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to facilitate timely approvals and maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities (may include but not limited to):
- Review and process authorization requests for medical services and procedures.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits through effective communication with insurance providers.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Utilize the practice management system and electronic medical record to accurately document patient care, authorization status and billing.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to gather necessary information for authorization submissions.
- Follow up on pending authorization requests and resolve any issues that may arise during the process.
- Stay updated on managed care policies and changes in insurance requirements to ensure compliance.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare staff regarding authorization inquiries.
Skills
- Proficient in office procedures and administrative tasks within a medical office setting.
- Strong knowledge of medical records management and confidentiality practices.
- Familiarity with medical coding systems, particularly ICD-10, and their application in authorization processes.
- Understanding of managed care principles and insurance verification methods.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with patients, providers, and insurers.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple authorization requests efficiently.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Basic HIPAA Knowledge
