What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESL Teacher Grades 5 & 6 position at Intermediate School?
POSITION TITLE: ESL Teacher, Intermediate - Grades 5 and 6
QUALIFICATIONS: Arkansas teaching license and endorsement or training in English as a
Second Language
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator(s) and District Supervisor(s)
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Collaborate with other teachers in Professional Learning Communities
- Serve as a resource for classroom teachers
- Administer ESL placement screener (ELPA 21) and reevaluation assessments
- Be familiar with and administer ELPA21 Summative Assessment
- Implement a variety of effective, research-based instructional strategies consistently to engage learners with the essential learning standards
- Monitor and assess student progress frequently, using both formative and summative assessments, and provide progress reports as requested
- Be organized and able to effectively complete paperwork and adhere to workflow expectations
- Coordinate with General Education teacher to create appropriate Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction and interventions
- Implement English Language Development (ELD) curriculum.
- Create a classroom environment that reflects respectful interactions between students and teachers, as well as student to student
- Communicate with Special Education, Gifted and Talented, counseling, health services, etc to provide appropriate services for English learners
- Lead building Language Placement and Assessment Committee meetings (LPAC)
- Communicate identified accommodations for students to regular classroom teachers and administration
- Meet with other schools to assist with smooth student transitions between buildings
- Maintain effective classroom behavior expectations and procedures
- Provide direction and support to ESL paraprofessional(s), when applicable
- Effectively implement district initiatives
- Attend student conferences 2x/year and provide frequent communication between parents
- Work collaboratively with parent involvement coordinator to promote community relations
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned
- Remain current on instructional practices in education to meet or exceed local and state expectations
- All other duties as assigned
