Position Description
POSITION TITLE: ESL Teacher, Southside Elementary, Grades 3 and 4
QUALIFICATIONS: Arkansas teaching license and endorsement or training in English as a Second Language
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator(s) and District ESOL Supervisor
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work collaboratively with instructional and interdisciplinary teams
- Serve as a resource for classroom teachers
- Administer ESL placement and reevaluation assessments
- Be familiar with ELPA21 and its testing procedures
- Implement a variety of effective, research based instructional strategies consistently to engage learners with the essential learning standards
- Monitor and assess student progress frequently, using both formative and summative assessments, and provide progress reports as requested
- Coordinate with General Education teacher to create appropriate Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction and interventions
- Implement English Language Development (ELD) within sheltered classes.
- Create a classroom environment that reflects respectful interactions between students and teachers, as well as student to student
- Communicate with Special Education, Gifted and Talented, counseling, health services, etc to provide appropriate services for English learners
- Lead building Language Placement and Assessment Committee meetings
- Communicate identified accommodations for students to regular classroom teachers
- Maintain effective classroom behavior expectations and procedures
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress
- Provide direction and support to ESL parapros, when applicable
- Effectively implement district initiatives
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned
- Remain current on instructional practices in education
