Position Summary:
The Construction Manager/Field Coordinator plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the field activities associated with the construction and deployment of fiber optic networks. Working closely with outside contractors, this individual ensures that all construction activities are permitted and performed in accordance with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact for outside contractors working on fiber optic construction.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor the progress of construction activities.
- Ensure that fieldwork is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project plans and specifications.
- Coordinate with permitting jurisdictions, project management, and contractors to allocate resources efficiently across the project.
Field Oversight and Coordination:
This includes acting as the primary point of contact for outside contractors, conducting regular site visits, ensuring safe and efficient fieldwork, and coordinating resource allocation.
Project Management:
This involves reviewing project schedules and deliverables, holding contractors accountable, resolving issues or delays, tracking project progress, and providing regular updates to stakeholders.
Quality Control and Compliance:
This entails verifying adherence to IIG standards, local regulations, and safety protocols, inspecting completed work, and addressing deficiencies or compliance issues.
Permitting and Documentation:
This includes obtaining necessary permits, leading change authorization processes, maintaining accurate records, and facilitating communication between stakeholders.
Safety and Training:
This involves promoting and enforcing safety practices, ensuring proper training and equipment for personnel, conducting safety audits, and reporting incidents or hazards.
Qualifications:
- Education: Preferred Associate's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; relevant certifications or equivalent civil construction experience will be considered.
- Experience: Experience in a field coordination or construction role, preferably within the telecommunications or utility industry.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of fiber optic network construction and maintenance practices.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in using construction tracking software and tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
