Homeroom Elementary School Teacher (IBPYP, K-5)
Job Summary: The Homeroom Teacher will be responsible for providing dynamic classroom instruction to students through a rigorous and holistic educational model.
About Our School: International Community School (ICS) is a DeKalb County, Georgia K-5 IBPYP charter school with the special mission of educating recently arrived refugee children alongside American-born children. DeKalb has one of the highest ratios of resettled refugees of any county in the United States.
Position Begins: July 2025
Essential Duties:
● Teach content and skills in all subject areas utilizing curriculum designated by ICS through the Georgia Standards of Excellence along with the effective implementation of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP)
● Develop weekly lesson plans and curriculum maps in conjunction with their grade level colleagues
● Evaluate academic and social growth of students (pre-post tests), analyze data, prepare report cards, keep appropriate records (to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities) as necessary
● Evaluate each student’s progress in meeting the Georgia Standards of Excellence
● Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive, and safe classroom environment
● Identify student’s needs and cooperate with other professional staff members to address issues such as counseling concerns, SST process
● Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress
● Participate in staff meetings and support student activities (i.e. IB Exhibition, Drama, and Photography Club)
● Administer mandated tests in accordance with the testing department of ICS and the DeKalb County School District
● Teach through a student centered, inquiry-based creative approach
● Proven track record of student success on formative, summative and standardized tests as well as impacting student social and emotional well-being
● Develop a multicultural learning community that emphasizes respect for diversity
● Engage with the community and works with translators and social service providers to help ensure a continuum of support between the home and school
Minimum Qualifications: Must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with Elementary
Education Certification (P-5) from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission preferred. Preferable to also have experience with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) and/or inquiry based learning.
