Reports to: Head of Lower School
Primary Responsibilities:
- Embrace and impart Lovett’s Core Values
- Cultivate a classroom culture that facilitates student voice, compassion for others, and a whole-child approach
- Supervise students in the classroom, building, playground, and across campus during the school day and foster a safe, consistent, and supportive environment for students
- Utilize grade level instructional materials, analyze data, and design differentiated instruction for students
- Provide effective feedback for students and continually monitor student progress
- Collaborate with colleagues within and outside of the department and/or grade level on instructional planning, student support, and furthering the mission of the school
- Foster a positive parent-school partnership with Lovett families
- Communicate student progress to families through report cards, parent teacher conferences, virtual platforms, and other touchpoints
- Engage in faculty and team meetings and ongoing professional development during the school year and summer
- Mentor and support Associate teacher in his/her professional growth
- Attend chapel, Open House, faculty in-service days, parent-teacher conferences, designated school sponsored events, Saturday Admission Observations, and professional development days
- Fulfill other Lower School duties as assigned

- Knowledge of current best practices in education and child development

- Flexibility and responsiveness to a variety of learning styles across a range of abilities

- Excellent written and verbal skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
- Familiarity with instructional technology, including interactive smart boards and Google Workspace
- Commitment to developing one’s cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence
- Uphold professional standards of personal presentation, attendance and punctuality, professional courtesy, discretion, and ethical behavior
- Three years of classroom experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
Physical demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger. The employee is often required to stand, walk, and reach with their hands. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
