If so, then our part-time Teen Program Assistant position at the International Institute of St. Louis is the perfect opportunity for you! As a Teen Program Assistant, you will directly impact and support the successful integration of refugee youth into the St. Louis community.
Your primary responsibility will be to support the Youth Mentoring Program, a 1-on-1 mentoring program where ORR-eligible youth ages 15 - 24 are paired with an adult volunteer to work towards educational, vocational, and social goals. This position includes regular, direct volunteer interactions, group events/field trips, and administrative tasks.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide culturally competent, equitable client services with minimal supervision
- Assist the Program Coordinator in preparation and implementation of program activities and materials
- Assist the Program Coordinator with recruitment and enrollment of youth participants and volunteers
- Track and record volunteer hours and notify Program Coordinator of absences
- Illicit volunteer mentor feedback
- Assist the Program Coordinator in the creation, storage, and distribution of resources and opportunities for mentors and mentees
- Support Group event/field trip planning, invitations, and day-of activites
- Entering client information into IISTL client database as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
- Cultural sensitivity and flexibility
- Strong desire to work with immigrant & refugee youth aged 15-24
- Ability to work well with others as well as independently
- Ability to speak and write English well
- Dependability and punctuality
- Second language (Spanish, Dari/Pashtu or Swahili) preferred
- Demonstrates strict adherence to client confidentiality protocols, consistently maintaining discretion and protecting sensitive information from unauthorized disclosure
- Ability to prioritize, effectively manage multiple projects concurrently, and take ownership of work.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Must be meticulous, but able to maintain a balanced perspective in rapidly changing business circumstances.
- Ability to work productively in a multicultural environment and demonstrate respect for differences.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft 365.
Education and Experience
- HS Diploma. Prefer some college credits
- Experience working with volunteers and youth.
