Job Summary:
The Senior Ministry Advancement Counselor assists the Chief Development Officer, Major & Planned Gifts in conducting a major gift/planned gift program for Lutheran Hour Ministries. The SMAC’s primary role is to work within a model of relationship (moves) management in order to identify, cultivate, and steward donor relationships with LHM, leading and resulting in the solicitation and close of current gifts and deferred gifts from existing and new Lutheran Hour Ministries’ donors, maintaining relationships with an average of 120 constituent households. Efforts to secure gifts will be concentrated in a defined geographic location where this person will conduct a major/planned gift program and assist in designing and implementing a long-range and short-range action plan.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assumes full responsibility for activities and programs assigned by the Chief Development Officer, Major & Planned Gifts and the Senior VP and Chief Strategy Officer.
- Raise funds at a major gifts level (gifts of $75,000 and greater) in support of the ministry. As such, work toward expected and mutually agreed upon goals and objectives that will annually address: the number of expected visits, solicitations, active pipeline of donors, and overall dollars raised in support of the ministry
- Serves as the Lutheran Hour Ministries representative and direct contact to planned gift partnerships of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Foundation in the assigned region
- Serves as resource to other Constituent Services staff members
- Assists in marketing and enrollment efforts for the Hoffmann Society, a planned gift donor recognition constituency
- Professionally stewards all donors and co-worker relationships
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- A deep appreciation for and an ability to successfully articulate the mission and values of Lutheran Hour Ministries
- Bachelor's degree – or – equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least ten (10) years of experience in direct relationship-based fundraising or equivalent combination of education and experience in fund development or a related field
- Demonstrated proficiency using technology to make presentations and manage prospect contact documentation
- Available for extensive travel and able to work a flexible schedule as needed, including weekends and evenings
- Well organized and a good administrator; able to work independently as well as within a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CFRE, other certification, or experience commensurate to provide knowledge of fundraising programs at this level
- Member of a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregation and faithfully supports the Synod’s mission and theology.
- Donor of Lutheran Hour Ministries and faithfully supports its efforts
- Ability to work in a system that emphasizes results
- Excellent communication skills (writing, public speaking, and individually)
Location: Our office is located in St. Louis, MO but LHM offers a flexible hybrid work environment.
