SUMMARY
An engineer whose primary role is developing equipment and environmental containment strategies, procedures, and best practices for use in the shipbuilding and ship repair/modernization industry, as well as researching and implementing new technology. Position requires a dependable employee with a willingness to learn, the ability to think critically, and adapt to changing environments and requirements.

Position requires a dependable employee with a willingness to learn, the ability to think critically, and adapt to changing environments and requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Track all new technology related to surface preparation and painting.
- Review project environmental setup plans.
- Develop best practices for environmental equipment.
- Review and approve environmental containment drawings.
- Design and implement process improvements for equipment.
- Develop equipment setup procedures.
- Implement new technology.
- Follow all company rules and policies.
- Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.
- Oversee, and assist in proper equipment and containment setup.
- May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the Engineering and Technical Planning Manager
- Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation to obtain access into a shipyard environment.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience in the operation of industrial equipment such as industrial ventilation, bast media vacuums, dust collectors, welding and cutting equipment.
- Shipyard, Infrastructure, or Industrial experience
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Proficiency in industrial, environmental and OSHA standards and requirements.
- Experience in design of industrial ventilation and environmental containment planning and setup.
- Must be able to work cooperatively and productively with other employees and shipyard personnel.
- Strong mathematical skills.
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to interpret guidance documentation from various sources and utilize that in procedure and document development.
- Strong computer and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and industrial design programs.
- Must be able to carry out instructions furnished in oral, written, or diagram form.
- Must be able to perform required duties efficiently and independently.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor of Science in Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering
- EIT certification with plan to obtain PE license
- PE preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Occasionally may be exposed to high temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces, proximity to other employees. To avoid injury, safety clothing is required along with safety devices to protect eyes, mouth, or hearing.
- Required to walk; occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, or crawl, occasionally required to sit, required to reach with hands and arms, use hands to feel, grip, or handle, regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, required use of vision to see up close, distance, and peripherally, as well as depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
