TRATON Research & Development (R&D) is undergoing a major transformation to establish a strong, global Group R&D organization. Our goal is to deliver a time-critical roadmap, deliver outstanding customer value, and drive innovation across our brands—Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus. This transformation will strengthen our competitiveness and position Group R&D as a key business partner within TRATON Group. We are now looking for a passionate System Architect to be part of this exciting change journey, shaping the future of Group R&D.
Position Details
- What kind of position/job is this? This is a full-time, permanent position within the TRATON Autonomous Driving domain.
- Where is the job located? The role offers the flexibility to be based in any of the locations where the Group HR R&D organization operates (Munich, Germany; Södertälje, Sweden; Lisle or Rochester Hills USA), depending on the candidate’s location.
- Who will I be reporting to? Head of Platform Engineering, Daniel Fellke as functional manager, legal manager will depend on your location.

TRATON Autonomous Driving Systems is an agile release train, where we value diversity and inclusion and make sure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive and where we honor a hybrid work environment. We are formed by several teams in Södertälje (SE), Munich (DE) and Lisle (US), with a total of about 100 members. Autonomous Driving Systems is designing and developing the compute platform, sensors, connectivity and HMI for all autonomous product segments and TRATON group brands (Scania, MAN, International and Volkswagen Truck & Bus).

Responsibilities
You will take on the responsibility as System Architect for the complete Autonomous Driving Systems release train. The role involves working closely with the Product Manager and Release Train Engineer to lead the work according to vision and roadmap.
In the position as System Architect, you are responsible for:
- leading the train in a unified technical direction
- documenting system architecture
- guiding teams through system design evolution
- leading the architectural design and HW/SW implementation
- balancing technical possibilities with business needs
As System Architect for the Autonomous Driving Systems train, you will have significant responsibility for autonomous system solutions. You will be part of the global Platform Engineering section management team and report to the section manager. We collaborate closely within management teams to strategize our mission to build world-class autonomous driving solutions.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 12 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 6 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities
OR
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 10 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 6 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities
OR
- PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 8 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 6 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities
Additional Requirements
- Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills
You are a leader but also a team player capable of working and delivering results together with others as well as on your own. You have technical experience from working in the domain, a lot of enthusiasm and the ability to define clear goals and targets for the teams. You need to be strong in cross-functional work, be communicative, show drive and initiative and dare to challenge.
We are looking for a can-do mentality combined with a structured way of working. Knowledge about electronics, sensors and software development as well as interest in customer applications and autonomous vehicles is important. To meet the expectations of the role we expect you to have:
- at least five years of experience from ADAS systems, self-driving systems, robotics or similar
- feel highly motivated by the mission and challenges within the Autonomous Driving Systems development
- experience in system development
- full professional proficiency in English
- Knowledge about the TRATON group, its products, methods and processes is meritorious.
