Position Details
- What kind of position/job is this? This is a full-time, permanent position within the TRATON Exhaust Aftertreatment & Fuel Cell domain.
- Where is the job located? The role offers the flexibility to be based in any of the locations where the Group HR R&D organization operates (Munich, Germany; Södertälje, Sweden; Lisle or Rochester Hills USA), depending on the candidate’s location.
- Who will I be reporting to? Functional reporting line – Sweden / Powertrain/ Exhaust Aftertreatment & Fuel Cell: Ingela Muhrbeck; legal manager will depend on your location.

Responsibilities
In the Role as System Architect LD-MD-Engines, you will be a key member of the newly established VCT LD-MD-Engines, consisting of around 50-60 team members, collaborating with global and local stakeholders in the Group R&D as well as key stakeholders between different VCTs in- and outside Area Powertrain. You will be responsible for driving modular, purpose-fit architecture for the LD-MD engine platform by defining long-term technical concepts and guiding component releases in line with market needs.
To ensure that you will:
- Define the right level of solution complexity to meet requirements, considering long-term technical perspectives, market opportunities, legislation, and emerging technologies.
- Establish a modular technical architecture to enable efficient adaptation and evolution of solutions over time.
- Balance customer needs, modularization principles, and other technical requirements in the design of components and systems.
- Provide technical recommendation for Domain Manager and Solution Architect on release of components/ parts
- Provide specific and strategic technical input to guide decision-making.
As our new Group VCT LD-MD-engines is part of TRATON Group, we are closely collaborating we are working with all brands in the Group (Scania, MAN, INTERNATIONAL, VWTB). In your role it’s therefore important to have a Group perspective while taking all brands into consideration.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 10 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 4 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities
OR
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 8 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 4 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities
OR
- PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 6 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 4 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities
Additional Requirements
- Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Desired Skills
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
- Experience in system development of engine and exhaust aftertreatment
- Experience in development for various markets and emission levels - in addition to Europe, the focus here is on South America
- You have experience in light and medium trucks and in the integration of engines in different truck chassis
- Familiarity with development and design tools
- Project management skills and experience leading development projects
- Leadership skills and experience is a plus
- Willingness to make business trips and to be on site in Nuremberg if necessary

- You are a collaborative team player who values service-oriented cooperation with managers and employees and fosters a positive work environment.
- You are highly interested in understanding all brands ways of working and cultures.
- You demonstrate reliability, discretion, and high social competence in managing sensitive information.
- You are proficient in written and spoken English for effective communication with a global audience; knowledge of Swedish or German is a plus.
