Job Overview:
The Asylum Services Screening Specialist verifies eligibility of asylum seekers to receive services through the Washington Migrant and Asylum Seekers Services Project.
Major Responsibilities:
- Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Contacting potential clients to determine project eligibility including review client documents and collecting information.
- Provide information related to next steps in the immigration process
- Coordinating with client to schedule intake and needs assessment interviews with WAMASSP staff.
- Maintain project schedules for all WAMASSP Navigators.
- Regularly review calls to the hotline and redirect accordingly
- Monitor incoming referrals from Spokes and self-referrals from clients
- Assist clients in uploading documents
- Provide information resources to non-eligible participants.
- Participate in all program meetings and fully engage as a member of the team.
- Comply with all IRC policies, procedures and protocols including adherence to the IRC Way and Child Safeguarding.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Job Requirements:
- Education: High School diploma or higher.
Work Experience:
- Prior experience working with refugee populations or asylum seekers is highly valued.
- Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese or French is highly preferred but not required
- Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a team member.
- Self- starter with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
- Technologically proficient
- Good communication skills; experience in a multi-cultural environment preferred.
- Must be able to work non-traditional hours, such as weekends, nights and holidays as needed.
Working Environment:
- This position is hybrid, staff are required to work 3 days from the assigned IRC office.
