Position Summary: The ISDenver counselor provides social-emotional support, consultation, and intervention services to promote nurturing environments and relationships among children, families, and staff; provides prevention based social emotional and behavior support to families and children; helps provide skills to staff and families around social and emotional development.

Overview:

  • Provide research-based social emotional and behavior support to families and children through individual and group sessions

  • Provide skills to staff and families around social and emotional development.

  • Provide social emotional support, consultation, and intervention services to promote nurturing environments and relationships among children, families and staff.

  • Provide support and coaching to teachers and other staff with implementing SEL, classroom management strategies, and executive functionings techniques

  • Facilitate group counseling/behavior sessions, including lunch groups, social skills groups, or affinity groups

  • Push in regularly to each classroom for SEL lessons and/or DEIB lessons in grades K1-G5 and in Advisory grades 6-8.

  • Conduct Classroom observations when necessary

  • Meet regularly with the principal and student support staff/counselors to make sure all students in your caseload are supported

  • Support the admissions team through shadow experiences, observations, interviews, and transition programming.

  • Work collaboratively with Director of Counseling and Directors/Principals on newsletter and parent education throughout the year

 

Other Details:

  • Together with the student support team, familiarize yourself with outside local resources.

  • Work closely with Principal/Directors to create behavior learning plans or behavior goal charts.

  • Collaborate in the implementation of a DEIB based Social and Emotional curriculum

  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation through registrar system

  • Work closely with other counselors and principals to facilitate transitions (K1 new to school, K3 to G1, G3 to G4, and G5 to G6)

  • Support other counselors as a member of the counseling team that may require you to push into divisions you are not primarily assigned to.

  • You may be expected to work outside hours if deemed necessary by the Director of Counseling or Building Principal. This includes responding to student crises, family emergencies or other matters that may arise.

  • Duties assigned by building Principals, including recess, before school or after school, and lunch duty

  • Work with students who have non-academic diagnosis, such as executive functioning or ADHD delays that aren’t academic specific.

  • Masters degree or equivalent in counseling from a CACREP institution (required)

  • NCC certification (preferred)

  • Two years experience working in ECE, Elementary, or Middle School as appropriate (preferred)

  • English proficiency with excellent verbal and written communication skills (required)

    • Level B2 required, C1 preferred (based on Common European Framework of References for Languages) or equivalent certification such as TOEFL or IETLS.

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in age and developmentally appropriate teaching methods (required)

  • Ability to demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills

  • Computer literacy (specifically in Google Suite)

  • Ability to work well independently or as part of a team, and provide direction to others when needed

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment

  • Eagerness to engage with co-curricular, extra-curricular, school community, and PTO activities that promote the school’s programs and reputation

  • Experience with or commitment to learning the International Baccalaureate Programme

  • Collaborative, team-oriented, globally- and open-minded, innovative, and compassionate

  • Professionalism, punctuality, and reliability

  • Commitment to learning about and implementing DEIB practices in the classroom and school community

  • Lived experience, including international work experience, and an appreciation and respect for all cultures a plus

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally be required to bend, stoop or kneel.

Location and Schedule: Expected work hours are 7:45am-3:45pm, M-F; you may have to work outside of these hours periodically. This job does not have remote work flexibility. All employees must be based in Denver, CO.
