Job Overview
This role is responsible for ensuring the implementation of environmental policies and procedures across all facilities, adhering to Company, State, and Federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a compliance calendar to support environmental permitting, regulatory activities, and the Environmental Management System (EMS), promoting high facility compliance standards.
- Oversee the operation, management, and reporting on the facility's Wastewater Treatment System.
- Coordinate the disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials, evaluating alternative options, scheduling, record-keeping, certifications, and training.
- Promote ongoing sustainability efforts to achieve targeted improvements.
- Participate in the Management Decision Issue (MDI) process, leading on environmental issues, preparing and presenting information as needed.
- Oversight and functional authority for environmental matters throughout the facilities.
- Conduct routine inspections, documenting findings, arranging for clean-up/remediation as necessary, and monitoring progress.
- Communicate with employees regarding environmental concerns.
- Provide training on the Environmental Management System, waste handling, chemical hazards, pollution prevention, and waste minimization.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret environmental and safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write reports and develop presentations.
- Apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Make decisive decisions under pressure, applying sound judgment.
- High level verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail with proven task prioritization.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, with excellent computer skills.
- Travel expected 25-50% to support multiple facilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Environmental Scientist/Specialist or others within the Environmental department.
Education and Experience
- At least 3 years of experience as an Environmental Specialist or similar role in a heavy manufacturing environment.
- 4-year degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or similar required.
