Scope:

The Laboratory Coordinator is a position responsible for assisting the Laboratory in maintaining receipt and documentation of laboratory supplies, laboratory inventory and routine QC methodologies. This position works with Laboratory Quality Control Manager, laboratory management and laboratory personnel all laboratory reagents and supplies used for routine laboratory testing are adequately stocked, have the necessary QC completed, stored to meet specifications, and all documentation is maintained as required by Standard Operating Procedures.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
:

Ordering and Inventory

  • Maintains all laboratory inventory.
  • Responsible for the organization of laboratory inventory and supplies.
  • Completes manual inventory counts weekly, monthly, annually, for audits and as additionally assigned.
  • Receives laboratory supplies and maintains proper documentation for laboratory supplies.
  • Ensures proper storage of all laboratory supplies.
  • Participates in inventory audits.
  • Interacts and obtains quotes with vendors, as assigned.
  • Monitoring of ordering points, as assigned.
  • Serves as a liaison for the maintenance of laboratory supplies and ordering of inventory needed to support lab operations in general and in compliance with defined processes and procedures.
  • Manages FreezerPro inventory software and resolves all inventory issues within the system.
  • Manages FreezerPro Alerts.
  • Manages inventory of prepared laboratory reagents and components for preparation of laboratory reagents, including primers.
  • Completes preparation of prepared laboratory reagents and components for preparation of laboratory reagents, including primers as trained and assigned.
  • Monitoring and follow-up of receipt of un-received supplies.
  • Updates laboratory supplies when QC complete and approved for use.

Laboratory Equipment:

  • Completes routine equipment maintenance, QC and post-service testing as trained and assigned.

Reagent and Control Preparation and QC Testing:

  • Prepares lab reagents and controls used for routine clinical testing, as trained and assigned.

QC data compilation

  • Assists the Laboratory Quality Control Supervisor in the monitoring of QC results for trending, and tracks laboratory quality indicators, as assigned.

Clinical work

  • Maintains competency for laboratory testing and conducts day-to-day routine laboratory testing, as assigned.

General

  • Performs all duties in compliance w/ laboratory safety & infection control practices.
  • Assists the laboratory management in the coordination of progress and completion of laboratory Quality Issues, as assigned.
  • Participates in the maintenance of the lab’s Quality Management System and quality control program regarding all aspects of laboratory operations, ensuring the integrity of analytical testing and results. This includes preparing and updating SOPs, use of appropriate controls and QA of results, as assigned.
  • Handles special projects and other tasks as assigned.


Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to write and maintain lab processes in line with regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform essential scientific, regulatory, and administrative lab functions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to write and summarize laboratory information, reports, and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and communicate, provide guidance and leadership.
  • Experienced user of relevant computer programs including MS Word, Excel, Access, LIMs systems and specialized laboratory instrumentation and software.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.


Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology OR a chemical, physical or biological science from an accredited institution plus one year of experience in chemistry and/or molecular testing AND
  • At least 2 years of clinical laboratory training or experience, preferred.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

MT or MLT (ASCP) preferred

Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a calculator, telephone, copier and other such office equipment. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
