What are the responsibilities and job description for the Back Office Medical Assistant position at Interventional Pain Associates?
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Back Office Medical Assistant / Procedure Room Technician to join our healthcare team at our interventional pain management practice. We are a procedure-based practice and do not perform medication management. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting our medical staff and ensuring high-quality patient care. This position requires a proactive individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, particularly in a specialist office environment, and is committed to enhancing the patient experience. The ideal candidate will be cross trained for both front and back-office duties, with the primary focus on back office.
Duties (including but not limited to)
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures.
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring they are clean and well-stocked.
- Ordering and shipment processing of medical supplies
- Perform basic medical procedures such as taking vital signs, administering injections, and assisting with the fluoroscopy machine and ultrasound machine during procedures.
- Manage patient records, including updating medical histories and sending visit records to referring providers for continuity of care.
- Assist with scheduling patient appointments and coordinate patient flow to optimize clinic efficiency.
- Provide education to patients regarding treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
Skills
- Experience in Interventional Pain Management office or specialty clinic is a plus.
- Proficiency in C-Arm/Fluoroscopy machine and ultrasound machines and medical-surgical practices is a plus.
- Knowledge of chronic pain and interventional pain procedures will be beneficial for patient interactions.
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems for efficient documentation (AthenaOne experience is a plus).
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients and staff.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to provide excellent patient service while maintaining professionalism.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) or willingness to obtain certification within six months of hire
- Ability to lift and move patients and equipment.
- Excellent communication and patient care skills.
- Knowledge of physiology and medication administration procedures.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced medical environment.
Schedule
The ideal candidate can be either full-time or part-time with the requirements for availability listed below. If you do not have the required availability, then we ask that you do not apply for the position.
- Full time schedule would be 9 am - 5 pm Monday - Friday

- Part time schedule would require the candidate to be available for the following schedule at a minimum (no exceptions):
- Monday 9 am - 5 pm
- Thursday & Friday 12 pm - 5 pm
- Additional days/hours may be available depending on provider availability
Compensation
- $17.50 - $21.00 per hour depending on experience
Benefits (only applicable to full time employees working 30 hours per week)
