A growing aerospace and defense supplier is seeking a Business Development Engineer to support sales initiatives across domestic and international markets. This role focuses on identifying and pursuing new business opportunities within the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) sector. The ideal candidate will collaborate with the commercial team to build customer relationships, manage account strategies, and drive opportunities through the business development funnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with business unit and sales leadership to develop and execute new business strategies targeting growth in the OEM market.
- Serve as the primary interface for customers throughout the business acquisition cycle, fostering strong, long-term partnerships.
- Own and manage the business development pipeline, tracking leads and progressing opportunities in coordination with internal stakeholders.
- Attend trade shows, customer events, conferences, and industry forums to promote products, engage with potential customers, and expand brand presence.
- Meet with customers to gather technical and commercial requirements, assist in early-phase product specifications, and position the value proposition of the organization’s offerings.
- Develop detailed account profiles, including contacts, procurement processes, product demand, and future opportunities.
- Provide timely documentation of meetings, customer visits, and pipeline progress.
- Utilize territory and time management tools to plan and organize travel effectively.
- Contribute to strategic planning, sales forecasting, and long-range growth initiatives.
- Provide consistent reporting to the Sales Leadership Team (weekly, monthly, quarterly).
- Perform other duties as assigned to support growth and customer engagement goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required (Business, Engineering, or related field); MBA preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in business development, account management, or technical sales. Experience in aerospace or defense markets is strongly preferred.
- Existing network or customer relationships in the aerospace/defense industry are a plus.
- Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously while contributing to a cross-functional team.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, deadlines, and business needs.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% for customer meetings, conferences, and internal sales functions.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
