Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care in an optometric clinic setting. This role requires a strong understanding of ocular anatomy and physiology, as well as proficiency in various systems and techniques used in the field. The Ophthalmic Technician will assist optometrists and ensure a smooth and efficient workflow within the clinic.
Responsibilities
- Conduct preliminary eye examinations, including visual acuity tests, tonometry, observing pupils, visual field testing, and extraocular movements
- Required skills include performing a variety of diagnostic tests including visual fields, OCT, fundus photography, visual fields, auto refractor and topography
- Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms and ocular medications
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with medical coding for billing purposes.
- Educate patients on proper eye care practices and post-operative instructions.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure all necessary equipment is sterilized and functioning properly.
- General office duties and cleaning to be assigned by manager.
- Stay updated on advancements in optometry practices and technologies.
Experience
- Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or in a similar role within an ophthalmology or optometric clinic is preferred
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician or Vertified Ophthlamic Assistant Certification is preferred.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to the eye is essential.
- Familiarity with medical coding practices is a plus.
- Experience working with patients of all ages, including pediatrics, is desireable.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and team members.
