MARKETING STRATEGIST, VENTURE DEVELOPMENT

INVEST OTTAWA MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

A member of the marketing and communications team and reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing Strategist, Venture Development is an integral part of Invest Ottawas (IO) Marketing and Communications team with the primary responsibility of supporting IOs Venture Development team. In this role, the Marketing Strategist, Venture Development, will be responsible for the development, management and execution of communications and marketing strategies, plans, and activities to support Venture Path programming. The role also includes oversight of public relations coordination and content development to strategically meet the marketing and communications objectives for the Venture Programs.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

• Developing and maintaining a consistent brand strategy and integrity for the Venture Development programs and sub brands;
• Developing and executing on creative communications and marketing strategies, plans, events and activities;
• Managing and/or overseeing daily client-facing communications content and key messaging including for social media channels;
• Public relations coordination, content development and development of program promotional storytelling vehicles for Venture Development programs;
• Developing and maintaining communications activities, processes and vehicles, with a goal on ease of execution;
• Coordinating follow-up on all marketing and communications requests;
• Developing and maintaining strategic relationships with internal and external audiences within the entrepreneurial community;
• Ensuring alignment and efficiencies of user experience marketing for Venture Development programs;
• Promoting consistent communications to internal audiences and leadership on cross-functional efforts;
• Developing and maintaining consistent dashboards to monitor traction and engagement of marketing efforts and metrics;
• Contributing to the marketing and communications team more broadly;
• Experience managing staff and students is highly desired;
• Other duties as required and requested by the manager.

WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED/ GAINED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER:

• Ability to develop strategic and integrated marketing and communications plans with specific KPIs;
• Bachelors degree or certificate in marketing, communications/ journalism, PR, advertising or a related field
• 5-7 years of experience working in a communications/marketing role
• Strong project management skills;
• Strong relationship building skills and ability to network and live the Venture Program brands;
• Ability to juggle many deadlines with complex and competing deliverables;
• Meticulous attention to detail and quality;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
• Excellent capacity to refine information to reveal insights on key issues;
• Strong creativity and understanding of the creative development process;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Ability to draft clear and concise messaging on complex subject matter;
• Strong design understanding and skills;
• Strong understanding of database marketing and email marketing;
• Ability to multitask and manage a diverse array of projects and tight deadlines;
• Strong collaboration skills;
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including SharePoint and Microsoft Teams;
• Previous experience marketing acceleration and scale-up programs or supporting early-stage and established entrepreneurs and business owners;
• Knowledge of economic development is highly desired;
• Understanding of the complexities of federal and provincial government departments;
• French communications skills are considered a strong asset;
• Previous experience with Canva, Dynamics, Asana and ClickDimensions is also highly desired.
