Sr. Level (chief) Estimator with extensive experience in Commercial Construction
The Chief Estimator is a key member of the Preconstruction team, responsible for leading the estimating process for all assigned projects. This position requires a highly experienced and skilled individual with a proven track record of success in accurately estimating complex construction projects. The Chief Estimator will play a critical role in driving profitable growth for the company by providing accurate and competitive bids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Estimating Process:
- Oversee all aspects of the estimating process, from initial bid solicitation to final bid submission.
- Develop and implement estimating procedures and best practices.
- Mentor and guide junior estimators.
- Prepare Accurate Estimates:
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and scope of work to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for all trades (e.g., concrete, steel, carpentry, electrical, plumbing).
- Research and analyze market conditions, material costs, and labor rates.
- Identify and assess potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Subcontractor Management:
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors.
- Negotiate subcontracts and manage subcontractor relationships.
- Conduct subcontractor pre-qualification and selection.
- Proposal Development:
- Prepare and submit professional and competitive bid proposals.
- Present bid proposals to clients and answer any questions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients.
- Business Development:
- Contribute to business development efforts by identifying and pursuing new project opportunities.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with architects, engineers, and other industry professionals.
- Technology:
- Utilize estimating software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, Timberline) and other relevant technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay abreast of the latest industry trends and technologies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 10 years of experience as a Senior Estimator or Chief Estimator in the commercial construction industry.
- Proven track record of success in preparing accurate and competitive bids.
- Extensive knowledge of construction materials, methods, and costs.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, Timberline) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
