The School Psychologist will provide comprehensive psychological services that support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of students. The School Psychologist will collaborate with educators, families, and community resources to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment & Evaluation
- Conduct psychological and psychoeducational assessments to identify students’ cognitive, academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Interpret assessment results and provide data-driven recommendations for educational planning, interventions, and eligibility for special education services.
- Participate in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, ensuring appropriate services are in place for students with disabilities.
Intervention & Support
- Develop and implement academic, behavioral, and mental health interventions to support students in general and special education settings.
- Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or social difficulties.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) strategies.
- Assist in the development of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for students with challenging behaviors.
Consultation & Collaboration
- Serve as a key resource for school staff and families on student mental health, learning disabilities, behavioral challenges, and crisis management.
- Work closely with teachers, administrators, counselors, and special education teams to develop strategies that promote student success.
- Provide professional development and training for school personnel on behavior management, social-emotional learning (SEL), trauma-informed practices, and mental health awareness.
- Act as a liaison between schools, families, and community mental health agencies to coordinate services and referrals.
Crisis Prevention & Response
- Participate in crisis intervention and threat assessment teams, providing immediate psychological support in emergency situations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide crisis response plans.
- Provide counseling and support for students and staff following traumatic events.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in School Psychology from an accredited institution.
- Delaware State Certification as a School Psychologist (or eligibility for certification).
- Experience conducting psychological assessments, developing interventions, and working with diverse student populations.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, IEP processes, and evidence-based intervention strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience in public school settings.
- Knowledge of MTSS, PBIS, and trauma-informed care approaches.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are a plus.
