Position Description : About Inwood Academy for Leadership
Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School is a tuition-free public charter school that began as an idea among community members who longed to see more educational choices offered to the children of Washington Heights and Inwood.

Our staff regard our student leaders as burgeoning assets to their community and help them develop the tools they need to be successful in college and beyond. Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in related fields is required; a Masters degree is preferred
- 3 years of experience of teaching in an urban school setting
- Experience working with students with diverse backgrounds and needs
- Experience and general understanding of education administration
- Training in and knowledge of instructional coaching
Key Strategic Priorities Include :
Building, maintaining, and partnering with staff, parents, and other administrators.Working together with administration and staff to promote the Highly Reliable Schools framework; specifically in Level 2 : Effective Teaching in Every Classroom.Utilize the Science of Learning - research based instructional practices as the heart of instructional coaching.Constantly research best practices to ensure coaching practices are aligned with the research by reading books, articles and listening to podcasts that support these strategies.Utilize data to support teachers in making wise choices about classroom instruction.Identify goals for each teacher and ensure the growth and development of these goals throughout the school yearEnsure that all teachers are internalizing their curriculum by leading them through curriculum protocols, scheduling trainings, and providing additional resources as neededPrioritize the improvement of classroom instruction by visiting classrooms throughout each day and meeting with teachers to follow up and follow through on goals their personal developmentParticipate in school planning and decision-making processes, ensuring that instructional initiatives align with overall school improvement plansEnsure effective use of student achievement data to set and monitor critical goals, implement targeted interventions, and evaluate progressResponsibilities
Staff Coaching & Development
Conduct regular classroom observations and deliver targeted, actionable feedback to teachers that supports their instructional growth and effectivenessUtilize multiple data sources to evaluate teachers' pedagogical strengths and weaknesses, ensuring feedback aligns with student achievement goalsCollaborate with teachers and subject / grade teams to co-plan units, lessons, and assessments, sharing ongoing feedback to improve instructional practicesProvide job-embedded professional development opportunities, including facilitating department and content meetings, to support teachers growth goalsPartner with the Site Director to identify teachers requiring additional support and collaboratively develop and monitor Teacher Improvement Plans (TIPs)Provide mentorship by modeling best teaching practices and sharing research-based strategies that enhance teaching and learningOnboard and support new teachers throughout the school year to ensure their successful integration into the school communityData-Driven Instruction
Analyze school-wide data to design responsive and effective interventions for students and targeted support for teachersConduct detailed data analysis to lead effective meetings, guiding teachers in using data to inform their instructional decisionsDevelop and implement action plans based on assessment data, including administering and scoring benchmarks, midterms, finals, and interim assessments. Lead pre- and post-assessment reviews to adjust teaching practices as neededTrack grade-level or content-area progress and provide oversight of student achievement in collaboration with teachers and academic teamsOversee the state testing assessment cycle, including quality control of materials, preparation for teachers and students, and coordination with the Director of Operations to ensure smooth executionCurriculum and Instructional Resource Management :
Oversee the alignment of the schools curriculum and assessments with state and district standards, ensuring that essential standards are prioritizedEnsure that each student has equitable access to critical content by supporting teachers in pacing and prioritizing curriculum objectivesManage the curriculum budget to allocate resources effectively, supporting instructional goals while maintaining cost efficiencyCollaborate with the operations team to oversee the ordering, distribution, and organization of curricular materials and maintain an efficient tracking systemFacilitate professional development sessions to help teachers use curricular materials effectively and integrate them into instructionCollaboration :
Partner with the Dean of Culture to support the implementation of school-wide initiatives and events aimed at promoting a positive school environmentCollaborate with the Dean of Culture to ensure the successful implementation of the advisory curriculumWork closely with the Family and Community Engagement Department to lead workshops for parents and support families in implementing strategies for academic success at homeCollaborate with the SST Department to develop and monitor learning plans for Tier 3 students, ensuring that interventions and supportive practices meet individual student needsKey Competencies :
