Description

Summary: Iona University seeks a dynamic and experienced Aquatics Director to oversee the daily operations, programming, and safety of our aquatics facilities. The Aquatics Director will manage the summer aquatics program, including lifeguard supervision, camp swim classes, and facility maintenance. This role is crucial to ensuring a safe, welcoming, and engaging aquatic environment for students, faculty, staff, and the broader university community.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Management: 

  • Provide leadership for summer aquatics operations, including staffing, programming, and facility use.
  • Supervise lifeguards, swim instructors, and other aquatics staff. o Implement pool policies and procedures to ensure a safe and efficient facility

 2. Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all safety standards, including water quality and equipment maintenance, comply with state, local, and university regulations.
  •  Develop and enforce emergency action plans and safety protocols.
  • Maintain all certifications for the facility, including those required for staff.

3. Facility Management: 

  • Oversee the daily operations and maintenance of the aquatics facility, including the pool, locker rooms, and equipmentt
  •  Conduct regular inspections of the facility to identify maintenance needs.
  • Coordinate with facilities management and external vendors for repairs.

4. Customer Service:

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all facility users.
  •  Address patron concerns and feedback in a professional and timely manner.

 

 

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Exercise Science, or a related field.
  •  Minimum of 3-5 years of experience managing aquatics programs and facilities.

 Required Certifications:

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO).
  • Current Lifeguard Certification and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification.
  • Experience in higher education or campus recreation setting.

 Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  •  Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing needs.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to work in a noisy environment with children and young adults for extended periods. •
  • Frequent standing, walking, and swimming required. •
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Schedule and Availability:
  •  Must be available to work Monday – Friday, excluding holidays, from 6/27/25 to 8/15/25 to accommodate facility operations and programming needs.
