DIRECTOR, BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP PARTNER (BRP), INTEGRATED SUPPLY CHAIN (ISC)

Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Business Relationship Partner SAP Subject Matter Expert (SME) with expertise in Integrated Supply Chain to act as a strategic partner to the business. This role will focus on driving the successful implementation of SAP S/4HANA supply chain functionalities and ensuring that technology solutions align with business objectives. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of supply chain processes, SAP products, and modules, and a strong ability to collaborate across business, IT teams and vendor engagements. This role will still need to know configuration and help drive solutions from conception to conclusion.

The Director, Business Relationship Partner (BRP), Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), reporting into the Executive Director, IT Portfolio Lead, G&A will Serve as the primary IT liaison for integrated supply chain functions, including manufacturing (process/recipe), procurement, materials management, business partner management, inventory management, warehouse operations, production planning, third party logistics integration, billing, invoicing and sales and distribution.

The BRP will understand business needs, challenges, and opportunities, and translate them into SAP S4 solutions with a focus on SAP best practices, standard system capabilities and configuration options. The candidate will have experience integrating with third party applications. The successful candidate will build and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders.

The Director of BRP for ISC will focus on process optimization and innovative thinking to proactively identify opportunities for process improvement, further leverage SAP functionalities, streamline operations and enhance user experiences. The candidate will drive the development and adoption of documentation standards and best practices.

The ideal candidate will help support and facilitate change management initiatives, ensuring smooth adoption of the new processes and systems.

The BRP for ISC will drive ongoing post-implementation support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for integrated supply chain functions working with various vendors as needed to ensure adherence to IONIS standards, compliance requirements, and IT policies.

This role involves leading various projects and utilizing the SAP platform to ensure it aligns with business objectives and enhances operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have deep functional expertise and demonstrate strong leadership abilities. The candidate will have spent a considerable amount of time working with multiple areas of the business and will be a champion for SAP.

The Director, BRP ISC will collaborate with an SAP System Integrator, Application Managed Service Provider, internal IT resources, business process owners, and IT compliance to focus on continuous improvement, patience, education, efficiency, and a seamless, compliant, and productive user experience.

The ideal candidate must possess advanced problem-solving skills, effective communication across various mediums, and patience and empathy for all types of users are essential. The candidate must be proactive, self-driven, passionate about using technology to solve business problems, skilled in conflict resolution, and capable of managing multiple vendors simultaneously.

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of SAP functional, environmental, and provisioning aspects, as well as SAP tools including GTS, EWM, BTP.

The role will develop and oversee detailed project plans, metrics, work plans, schedules, resource plans, and status reports, and will identify, analyze, and recommend SAP business systems solutions with broad business impact. Additionally, they will influence the vision and roadmap for the SAP platform, ensuring it remains secure and performs to organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Partnership: Serve as the primary IT liaison for integrated supply chain functions, including procurement, inventory management, production planning, and logistics. Understand business needs, challenges, and opportunities, and translate them into SAP S/4HANA solutions. Build and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders.
  • SAP S/4HANA Expertise: Act as the subject matter expert for SAP S/4HANA supply chain modules, including Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), Sales and Distribution (SD), Manufacturing (Process)and Warehouse Operations. Provide guidance on SAP best practices, system capabilities, and configuration options.
  • Project Leadership: Lead the integrated supply chain technology space supporting design decisions, requirements gathering, process mapping, and gap analysis. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, test, and deploy SAP solutions.
  • Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvement and leverage SAP functionalities to streamline operations, enhance efficiency and improve user experience. Develop and document standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Ongoing Support and Governance: Provide post-implementation support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for supply chain functions. Ensure adherence to governance standards, compliance requirements, and IT policies.
  • Team Leadership and Vendor Management: Drive a high-performing team by managing vendor relationships, contracts, and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary point of contact for SAP ISC related initiatives across all business functions, including manufacturing, purchasing, sales and distribution. Facilitate change management and user adoption strategies for the SAP platform.
  • Governance and Best Practices: Establish and enforce best practices, standards, and governance for SAP configurations and processes. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • 15 years IT experience with 8 years of experience in SAP implementations, with at least 3 years focused on SAP S/4HANA.
  • In-depth knowledge of SAP S/4HANA supply chain modules (MM, PP, SD, EWM).
  • Strong understanding of supply chain processes, including procurement, inventory management, production planning, and logistics.
  • Post go-live experience utilizing an AMS vendor with a focus on SLA adherence.
  • Management of SAP Application Managed Services partner and SAP Hosting Partner
  • Ability to act as the voice of the customer to guide all stages of software development, including user story development, sprint planning, and prioritization of the product backlog.
  • Understand business and end-user needs; identify and prioritize features to be delivered to meet those needs.
  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders to develop and document user stories.
  • Participate in sprint planning to determine the team’s objectives for the upcoming sprint.
  • Prioritize and maintain the product backlog.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies such as stand-ups, story refinements, and team retrospectives; ensure the team has a clear understanding of priorities and next steps.
  • Lead the sprint review meeting to present the output from the sprint to key stakeholders.
  • Analyze feedback from sprint reviews, and other data such as end user feedback and operational metrics, to identify and understand product needs.
  • Work with the development team to create acceptance criteria and definitions of failures and done.
  • Assist the team on the development of feature tests, test cases, and regression tests.
  • Set expectations with business stakeholders for delivery of new capabilities, features, and functionalities.
  • Extensive knowledge of SAP S/4HANA modules, including finance (FI/CO), supply chain (MM/SD), GRC, Manufacturing, and human capital management (HCM).
  • Proven experience in leading full-cycle SAP implementations.
  • Strong understanding of SAP architecture, integration points, and data migration strategies.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • SAP certifications in S/4HANA modules or technical areas.
  • Experience with cloud-based SAP deployments (e.g., SAP RISE).
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
  • Knowledge of emerging SAP technologies such as AI/ML integration and SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • Worked in Pharmaceutical, Biotech, or Medical Device industries
  • Agile Certification (SCRUM, SAFE)
